If you don't have a high school diploma or GED they automatically stick you in a GED program. If you don't speak english well, they stick you in ESL classes. If you have a diploma/GED and speak english, they'll usually put you in a program to improve professional skills, using computers, sometimes they'll help with how to write a resume or job interview skills, shit like that.

That's about what you should expect, but the programs can vary by city/state.

Nah, it's not community service shit. They started those programs to try and help people develop skills to re-enter the job market and get off government assistance instead of just letting people leech off the system.
