Pretty much every bakery here offers freshly made, simple sandwiches, fruit salads and yoghurts.
Stuff is actually fresh, really good and dirt cheap.
I'm not talking "regular" fast food, but something edible
I know Americans fot their Delis, but are they cheap/simple?

Canada has sushi
Depends on the deli, but generally, yes.

basically all grocery store and some gas stations have really cheap and somewhat tasty food
Delis are usually a step above, in terms of price and quality
Here in the northeastern US they are very popular. In Philly (where I live) they are all over the city. The most common is prosciutto, hot capacola, genoa salami, sharp provolone, lettuce, tomato, and onions.People often usually get things like oil, sweet peppers, long hot peppers, and oregano too.

Probably not the same, the stuff is good quality and cheap as fuck, mostly because they are made in a bakery and most bakeries here have a butcher shop nearby.
In short, something simple you can grab for a buck or two, eat and don't feel like you just poisoned yourself afterwards.
