I actually haven't made egg drop myself yet but my guess would either be that the water isn't initially hot enough or it's being poured too fast (so the water cools down from the egg before the whites can cook and turn white).

Fry them in quarters and try out all sorts of spices.

I usually make a instant ramen soup with potatoes, green peppers, onions, garlic, zucchini and tomato and once it's done cooking while the pot is still hot I add the egg, try not to stir it until it's cooked and that's it.
