If you could make a wish and have con pop up anywhere you want focused on whatever you want, what would you do?

>Pic related: Katsucon South

Casa Bonita.

PAX NORTH
>>
Anime Expo South. I feel like A-Kon's been mediocre for a few years and really needs someone to push them off their high horse, you know?
>>
>>9577331

Boston is pretty far north though?

Whether it be AOD, the new San Francisco Comic con, or something else new entirely, I want an anime or comic convention at the Moscone Center, not just one part of it though like all of it, I want a giant San Francisco convention

The new SF Comic Con is at the Moscone west which is awesome and if it keeps doing it could very well be the next Wondercon, but I just want it to be one giant con already
>>
>>9577331
>>9577281
I've been thinking about these for a while, I'm surprised Katsucon never branched out yet like Otakon or PAX

Also PAX north, please let's have a convention in Chicago, Toronto or Montreal
>>
>>9577322
Fellow Colorado anon? Because that's a fantastic idea. I'd love that, too. They got a stage, back rooms, and everything.
>>
>>9577322
They'd need to cater so con goers don't shit themselves. The sopapillas are good though.
>>
>everyone is picking new locations for existing cons

Honestly I just want to see some more cons that try and succeed at providing something different, like Colossal or D*Con. I feel like a lot of cons try but their ideas are either not great to begin with (Anext moving to Atlantic City to be a casino con) or they're just not original and appealing enough.

I'd say I want more Colossals in new locations, but that's already happening since they're like close siblings with the Kalahari and go wherever they open a new location.

Also MTAC (I think?) made the TN Gaylord not want anything to do with cons but idk about the other Gaylord locations.
>>
>>9577281
>>9577434

Only if Katsu stops pretending to be a real con and just embraces being a long party and photos weekend. Katsu programming has sucked for ages.

>Cosplay focused convention when ??
>>
>>9577434
>Everyone is picking new locations for existing cons
>Says the exact same thing but rewords it

Yeah okay man
>>
>>9577414
SF is a logistical nightmare though, given the price of hotels in the city and how crowded it already is. Even as a Bay local I'm not sure I would be totally comfortable on a BART train to the con. I've seen my fair share of incidents.

I would like Dragon*Con west. The only reason I haven't attended yet is the distance.
>>
>>9577465
seconded
I live in SF but don't actually like cons in SF
>>
>>9577455
Did you just skip over my entire first sentence?
>>
>>9577331
Where specifcally north though? The midwest? Canada?

and then there's the Candidates
>Minnesota
>Wisconsin
>Illinois
>Indiana
>Michigan
>Ohio
>Literally any province in Canada

I'd even say take it up a notch and put that shit in Alaska

Former Colorado anon, yes. It would be rad as fuck for a one day con or a photo event.

>>9577432
Can't deny that.
>>
>>9577281
I adore the idea of a Katsucon closer to us than DC but the Texan would be so awful. That atrium is a maze and there's barely room for any decent size gathering, plus the only food outside of it is a drive away by the mall.

I want DFW to get its own big holiday-themed con. Yulecon had a good premise but was just absolute shit, so. I'm just tired of A-kon being the go-to con up here.
>>
>>9577281
I thought that was the Opryland hotel at first. Now I'm disappointed

A UK con being held at a holiday resort like Centre Parcs would be fucking cool.

Massive forest for photoshoots, pools, log cabins etc.

Only problem is it colliding with normies, but then again, Colossal does that already.

Opryland hotel would be so incredible for a con, but I guess like >>9577434 said cons have overstayed their welcome at the TN Gaylord
I am honestly pretty surprised there aren't cons at any of the other Gaylords though, I'm sure it's pricy but people still literally go to katsu just for the location so it seems like a no brainer for a FL or TX con.
>>
>Cosplay-focused con
>High quality craftsmanship workshops and guests
>Nice hotel spaces like Katsucon
>Optional off-site shoot spaces with transportation
>A high profile cosplay contest in the USA that isn't a joke

IIRC someone tried to start a cosplay/shoot based con in New Jersey a few years ago, but they wanted an obscene amount of money so the kickstarter failed.
>>
I want a con that makes it actively difficult for teenagers to attend unsupervised. I'm talking about the Dragon Con model of high priced badges to discourage parents, not allowing those without badges to enter the venue, openly setting up bars in the evenings.
I'm not talking about the yaoi con model of centering their focus on pornographic material and thus requiring attendees be 18+

Just because I want to get the hell away from children doesn't mean I only want the focus to be porn. I just don't like hanging out with 14 year olds.
>>

>I'm talking about the Dragon Con model of high priced badges to discourage parents, not allowing those without badges to enter the venue, openly setting up bars in the evenings.

Sounds like the con you want already exists
>>
I want somebody to rent an Ikea for a convention
>>
>>9583812
Please elaborate.
>>
my big convention problems are that the panels are all either celebrity guests (reasonable, because they bring in lots of autograph revenue) or... cosplayers? cosplayers doing Q&A panels as if they're credible sources or cosplayers running RP panels where they talk to eachother "in-character" in front of 40-odd people

there is the occasional 101 seminar sort of panel, too, but one can only sit through so many of those before losing interest

I don't like the panels where the only role of the host is that they're in cosplay. And that's what most panels seem to be nowadays.

I liked the crafting panels a lot, but they don't really pop up very often. I guess as conventions got more mainstream/expensive, panels that required additional fees stopped being popular. Or maybe the items people made were seen as kitsch at best, but idk I loved it
>>
>>9583815
It would probably be a good location for domestic photoshoots
>>
>>9577416
please not another chicago convention
>>
>>9583742
This. Like Costume College for cosplayers, hopefully with less unwashed middle aged civil war re-enactors.
>>
>>9583795
We'll yes. More accurately I want more of that thing.

And I wouldn't mind it having more of an anime slant, where Dragon Con just sort of begrudgingly allows it to tack itself on.
>>
>>9584317
>unwashed middle aged civil war re-enactors.

I don't see the problem
>>
>>9584481
Then enjoy costume college!
>>
>>9584317

okay but awkward middle age 3 wolf moon style reenactors know shit about sewing that most cosplayers have never even heard about

I keep wanting an influx of cosplayers to costume con so I can go without it being a social wasteland
>>
>>9584484
sure, thanks!
>>
>>9584486
Seriously, if the whole re-enact or thing isn't a problem for you or is even a plus for you, then just go to Costume College. It's a 3 (4?) day event where almost every panel is some kind of sewing or crafts workshop.
>>
>>9584525
no because it's in California

I guess that's just the issue of this thread, though. We don't want new conventions, we just want more of already existing conventions, in different locations
>>
>>9584032
Not a Rosemont con, I mean like actual Chicago
>>
I want more cons like Dashcon and Ultimacon. The stories of failed conventions are more enjoyable than the stories of successful ones.
>>
>>9584032
what do you mean?
there's really only 1 anime con unless you count kopf's cons
>>
>>9584632
For Anime there's Acen and Midwest but there are other conventions in overlapping demographics like Wizard World, CAD, and c2e2

more if you count Pheasant Run, or the renfaire in schaumburg, even though they're a little further out than Rosemont

there's also a lot of colleges in chicago that have small conventions, like Uchi-con
>>
>>9584646
yeah, but it's literally the 3rd largest city in America
that's like saying there are too many cons near new york city or in the greater LA area
there's gonna be a lot of shit there
>>
>>9584670
yeah but with Youmacon just a short ways away, Acen, c2e2 and the generally shit economy chicago has, no one has money for another anime convention. Even midwest wasn't as bustling as it should have been.
>>
>>9584624
The Steven Universe convention is happening the weekend of my birthday, I'm hoping my present is the shitshow that will inevitably come from it.
>>
Everyone wants cons close to their area or within driving distance. I never understood why the biggest cons setup in the most expensive areas to travel/stay/eat at.

I'd also like to see a con more focused on western animation, but I know every one that has tried so far has failed. This niche has been progressively growing though, with one particular show having it's own dedicated conventions.

>>9577383
Aren't there already like 20 other anime cons in the Dallas/Ft Worth area trying to do that?
>>
>>9584722
The only cons with substance other than A-kon in DFW are Comic Con and Afest, and Afest is still garbage covering up the garbage with big-name guests. There's not going to be anything like AX in DFW anytime soon unless A-kon suddenly becomes amazing.
>>
>>9584722
There's D23, beyond that what else is there? A con for all your emoji movie and boss baby cosplay needs?

There just isn't a big pool of contemporary western animation to justify a whole con for it. Between D23 and comicon that about covers it.
>>
A good convention in Vancouver, Canada.
For the size of the city, and the number of people in the scene. It's a real shame that our con scene is in literal shambles. Ffs.

>tfw I had to wait 5+ years until I can finally jump the border to sakura con because of university life
