Leaving this message to myself one year from now when I inevitably go into the archives to read these AX threads to get hyped up for AX 2018

To me one year from now: You better have lost weight you fucking fat fuck

Last year was 50 starting. Why the price increase?

POST MORE HAULS!

We all know the only real reason to go to AX these days is to buy shit & party at the dance/concert events (Since it's basically impossible to get into a panel unless you're a Premier carrier)
>>
I didn't know pregaming was the word for drinking before doing things until neon district.
>>
>>9549172
It was $50ish bucks yesterday. It always goes up the day after AX. It will drop down again on black friday.
>>

Do Premier badges become available again?
>>
>>9549177
It's just the fad toy of the year, should be gone in a few months. There's guys hawking them all along Hollywood Blvd too.

>>
>>9549172
$56 in limited quantities then went up when they ran out maybe 6pm yesterday (by default would have went up at midnight though)

>>9549180
they should return later in the year if they handle it like previous years. black friday probably. for some attendees $400 is cheap for the benefits and one of my friends bought his immediately
>>
Can someone explain to me how $400 for a premier badge is worth it? You only get 1 free ticket and front of line access isn't worth that much.
>>
>>9549179

I basically live in Chinatown. Food is fucking phenominal. Rent is average by LA standards ($2900 for a four-bedroom) but I share it with five other guys, so it's not too bad.

>>
Did anyone attend the Yui Horie panel? I missed out on that.
>>
>>9549199
Guaranteed access to panels.
>>
>>9549199
If you go to panels then it's worth it.
>>
>>9549199
utimately depends on your interests but:

free ticket
can buy tickets before normal attendees (really good for the idol concert. shit sold fast)
hotel priority
enter exhibit hall first on all days and an hour early on day 1
front of line for practically any panel and don't have to wait in line

if you don't buy exclusives, do panels or premieres, or go to concerts, it's not worth it. if you do then it's worth the cost.
>>
>>9549205
>>9549206
Does the Premier badge also get you guaranteed access to autograph signings from guests?
>>
>>9549203
it was supposed to be about miss monochrome/showtime (game for miss monochrome) but of course devolved into q&a about her older work
>>
>>9549213
No, autographs are all first-come first-serve.
>>
>>9549213
if it's an industry first come first serve potentially yes
if it's the AX signings no because people camp outside overnight and in the morning
>>
>Staying at the Residence Residence Inn/Courtyard
>Fucking idiots across wouldn't stfu and kept drinking late at night
>Report them to front desk on day 1
>Hear shit outside on the night of day 2
>Watch through my peep hole shit go down as hotel security bust them having like 12 people party

Under. I've been doing it without realizing it too.
>>
>>9549160

Half the time my bag wasn't checked. My ID was never checked even once (when getting into the con).

And when I came to the pre-show night, I only showed my 4-day badge to see if they would care. They didn't.
>>
>>9549180
On black friday. They sold out again at 12pm pst today.
Sold out in 10min I think.
>>
>>9549232
there's no name on 4 day badges to begin with. the only badges that have names are industry, press, and exhibitor, and we just swap them around to the point it doesn't even matter. the only thing that matters is the color.

It's amazing how much of a hubbub there is over AX despite the con not really having much more to do at it than any regular anime con. In fact, it's kinda worse than your regular anime con due to crazy lines, not allowing cosplay gatherings and charging money for events that are usually free.

You're better off saving your money and going to Fanime.

Fanime is a con for the fans. If you're just interested in attending stuffy corporate panels then save your money and go to SDCC.
>>
>>9549261
I bought that Tippy too, it has little elastic loops on the bottom so you can attach it to a headband. So cute.
>>
>>9549294
Next year will be easier than ever to ghost. With AX mailing badges out, 50% of the con will have a fake badge.
>>
>>9549311
I know that's what Fanime fans like say, but when the cost of a badge for Fanime and AX are about the same at both of their cheapest, I'd take AX over Fanime every day.

Fanime could learn a few things from ALA about how to be a good con for fans
>>
>>9549307
I swear I looked it up and didn't see em in it. But yes I did rush before and during the con. Before being 2 days before it happened I decided to go and during well barely got to do what I wanted. Did they have a lottery this year?
>>
>>9549317
Fanime is $55. AX is $80 cheapest, which doesn't even include the ability to attend basic events like the masquerade or concerts, which costs extra. When all is said and done you're paying several hundred dollars at AX to get the experience similar to any anime con but with much bigger restrictions, lines crowds.

But hey, so long as the SPJA convinced you that AX is THE EVENT OF THE CENTURY then you can have your placebo con.
>>
>>9549246

>not allowing cosplay gatherings

? They have a cosplay gatherings pdf on the official site. There were dozens and dozens of gatherings this year.
>>
>>9549324
>AX is $80 cheapest
No.
>>
This was the first convention I dressed up as something remotely related to the theme. It was fun. Ill definitely put more effort into crafting to cosplay rather than just buying a japanese school girl PE uniform at day three and wearing it at day four. Also Ive always intended to make /cgl/ a one stop for conventions, but this board is actually pretty decent or at least up there compared to other boards.

Ive been hearing a lot about ALA and i never got intrested in it, but ill consider going as well. Would describing it as a smaller AX be accurate?

Also where is >>9547516? Post outfits already!
>>
>>9549324
>AX is $80 cheapest

Nope. Guess shows what you know.
>>
>>9549325
The gatherings have to all be held off-site. It's against con rules to hold gatherings inside the convention.
>>
>>9549329
Thats incredibly fucked, boys. Any good reason why? Everyone enjoys them and, if not, its only takes up a small piece of the convention floor.
>>
>>9549321
They did. It was for Dolfie stuff.
>>
>>9549327
ALA isn't much of a convention. It's essentially just a glorified pool party. In past years tripfags have promoted it since it was the con they would go to for /cgl/ meetups.
>>
>>9549324
I bought my AX 18 badge for $56.
>>
>>9549331
Off-site practically means just outside the doors of the convention center and that's for the big gatherings like Overwatch

I was at a small gathering that was outside, but still on convention conver property. On the second floor near the entrance to the exhibit hall.

I don't think anyone would be happy with having a 150 person Overwatch gathering taking up walking space on the floor for an hour
>>
>>9549335

I had that feeling too. This was the first year I attended, and without cosplay, it felt kind of boring. If I attempt to cosplay next year though, I'll try it out there first.
>>
>>9549335
>It's essentially just a glorified pool party.
Still sounds pretty fun actually

>In past years tripfags have promoted it since it was the con they would go to for /cgl/ meetups.
Do seagulls still actually go? If it get enough attention ill strongly consider it.

>>9549338
Oh. Didnt think about it that way with hoards of people cosplaying as popular character from popular series.
>>

You can't have gatherings outside the doors either. And it applies to all gatherings, not just the big ones.
>>
>>9549331

They are literally held feet outside the door. There is a lot of room on the con property that's outside.

And if they held the big ones inside (350+ people, like League of Legends, Pokemon, Overwatch, etc) no one would be able to walk anywhere.
>>
>>9549358

They are right outside. Yeah of course you aren't allowed to BLOCK the doors, but they are RIGHT outside. Like you can photograph them from inside of the convention center.

There's no reason for you to lie to people because they can just youtube it
>>
>>9549347
It's a sticker, and everything except the jlist sticker I bought at the weapons grade waifus booth.
>>
>>9549352
Yeah Ive noticed and realized how dumb it would be to drive from Vegas to LA just to party for 3 days. Plus its not too far after Stan Lee's Comikaze.

>>9549358
Honestly they couldnt have a good enough crowd control to disperse certain sized gatherings, so id imagine it happening regardless.

AX used to hold small gatherings inside the conventions center, this was back in 2009-2012 when the con was averaging between 42k and 50k and could handle it.

I remember that the Ace Attorney gathering was held inside the convention center for the longest time because the LACC was a pretty good fit for the series.

Supposedly on Saturday they did it.

No, plus generic schoolgirl outfits tend to get ignored, and it is to damn hot to wear Gabriel Dropout cosplay.

Hands down, the woman working at the aniplex booth dressed in the red cosplay with a tall staff.

I was there to grab a can badge from the fgo gacha, but the line was capped and she kept yelling at people to keep moving and come back in a few minutes, yet arbitrarily let people in anyway regardless of how long they'd been trying to get in line. I nicely hovered over in a less busy corner so I wouldn't block the walkway, but I was less than 20 feet away, and she pulled people in who just happened to be passing by even while looking right in my direction.

After an hour I basically begged to get in and she relented, but damn was the wait awful. Would've given up if it wasn't for the sake of a gift.
>>
>>9549436
>Who the fuck wants cosplay gatherings to be indoors?
People who are actually attending the convention. Y'know, the place where all the cosplayers and people who want to take photographs are.
>>
>>9549199
>front of line access isn't worth that much
Speak for yourself.

Without a Premier badge you have to try to get to the very front of the line to even get a decent seat, let alone make it in before the panel caps. To get to the front of the line you have to line up an hour or more before the panel starts. If you go to three panels in a single day, that's three hours minimum that you could be using to do literally anything else. Assuming each panel is an hour long (some of them go longer), you've just spent your entire day on lines and panels.
>>
>>9549516
This is nothing new really. The halls have no way to form a line without blocking the walkway so they just tell everyone to get the fuck out. Then they just periodically let people in. It's a decent system I have no complaints about.
>>
>>9548424
The one looking for Xenogears Perfect Works, you could try Kinokuniya since that's where I saw copies last year (at least, in the actual store). I don't know if they have any left because I'm looking for one. Amazon Japan also has them for 5000 yen but I think they might be second hand.

A dude was standing right in front of an AA table, and he stood his ground as I tried to look at the display around him. I reached over to see if the charms on it were double-sided. He pointed out the 'do not touch' sign and I apologized, saying I couldn't see it. He didn't move an inch while I continued to try to get a better look. Then he says snappily, "If you want to buy something, you have to wait in line." I tell him I'm just trying to see the display (this wasn't like Gearous's booth who had the foresight to hand out flyers with her products listed), and this dude stillll doesn't move. It wasn't like this was Saturday afternoon craziness, he couldve easily moved. It was a minor annoyance, I just hate it when people assume I'm trying to wrong them.

>>
>>9549535
>I don't want cosplayers at an anime convention

I didn't say that. You need some better reading comprehension, friendo.

I don't want cosplay gatherings taking up space in the halls. It's already bad enough when one jackass decides to take a photo in the middle of a busy walkway and clogs up the hall with people trying to get around. It's going to be even worse if you have an entire gathering set up. Especially if it's a popular cosplay gathering with hundreds of cosplayers and just as many photographers and bystanders.

Unless they stick gatherings in some unused rooms, they belong outdoors.

There has never been a situation at AX where a cosplay gathering has stopped a person from getting somewhere. That also isn't the reason they made it against the rules. You're trying too hard to defend AX's regressive anti-fan policies. Which is why AX is a terrible convention.

AX is crowded as fuck. The hallways are small as fuck. All it takes to slow shit down to a halt, especially on day 1, is one guy asking a cosplayer walking down the hall for a picture. And here you come thinking it's okay to drop a 200 person blob of people doing nothing but standing around somewhere inside the convention center that isn't in a room dedicated to gatherings.

I'll keep it simple for you. If there isn't a room dedicated to hosting cosplay gatherings, then they should be in a location where their presence will not impede on the hundreds of thousands of people trying to get around. This will most likely be outside. It sucks to be outside in the July sun, but that's how it's going to be at AX because of how many people are there.

Considering it's a transaction of over $1k, the bank probably red flag it as unusual activity. Hence the transaction is around $500 right now for you.

Also, someone posted about Team Four Star being hit with some sort of DMCA from Toei in the last thread. Anyone got a source on that?

not him but at SDCC they work 99% of the time so you can scalp badges np. the only time they don't work is if you forget to tag out and on random occasions. had it happen once to me and they just had me redo it and it went green the next.

So is there a con that isn't a crammed shitshow like AX but still has as many good guests? I feel AX brings the good stuff and it's why I subject myself to the torture year after year.
>>
>>9549919
You won't get the industry presence without the people to support it.
Even the maid cafe had actual Japanese maids from a real maid cafe in Japan.
>>
>>9549919
>goodstuff
Let's be real, the only good thing is the cosplaying community, social events, and partying.
AX is just the gate for it.

The events and guests are shitty.
>>
>>9549930

>>
>>9549930
Opposite for me. Those things are secondary, the events are primary.

>>
>>9549946
The problem is the gap between AX and every other con out there. Maybe in part because AX has ties with the SPJA they can bring the biggest named stars.

But I hear Otakon brings good Japanese guests. Them moving to DC might be more enticing for Japanese guests wanting to check out the Capital. I'd love to finally go but the proximity to AX makes it hard.
>>
>>9549957
I was there for Massive New Krew
>>
>>9549961
The SPJA is just the name of the nonprofit organization that runs AX. They're more or less the same thing. Same with Otakorp running Otakon and ANCEA running Sakuracon. Comic Con International happens to be the name of both event and organization (although SDCC is generally used as the event)

They get the guests because they've fostered ties with industry and industry also notices that AX has a shitload of attendees. Both industry and conventions want good ROI if they're footing the bill. AX brings some guests on its own and others are paid for by industry companies.

>Insert seiyuu people actually give a fuck about here not at AX

Managed to get a premier pass for 2018 before it sold out. Still deciding whether I should keep it or just refund it. $400 is a lot of money.

For those who had a premier pass was it worth it?
>>
>>9549986
Not like if they had many other options. I know that was the case for my group.
>>
>>9549562

350 people posing for pictures together for an hour would definitely stop people from getting paces
>>
>>9549368
THey had a really nice carrier there. I think I might get one soon
>>
>>9549987
It was worth every penny as my premier friends and I laughed at the 5 hour long line. The 4 day badges are being mailed out next year though.
You still get:
-$50 off any ticketed event
-cut in line for all panels
-hotel block with good prices
-first chance to buy tickets

It was worth it for me. But if the badges are mailed next year it takes away a big draw of the badge.
>>
>>9549987
Think of it as $100 per day maybe that could help.
>>
>>9549999
>takes away a big draw of the badge.

why? regular badges will get shipped but still get none of what you listed. and youre also forgetting the early access to the exhibit hall so if you like getting exclusives before they sell out, thats also another benefit of getting the pass.
>>
>>9549999
For two of the last 3 years the line wasn't even worth mentioning and if it hadn't been for that dumbfuck in Arizona wouldn't have been worth mentioning this year either. Getting a badge mailed was only really relevant 2014 and this year.
>>
>>9549999
How do premier passes benefit you for the "non-clearing" rooms? I went to the JoJo panel and DragonBall Super panel and literally just camped out in order to get the seats in the front. I didn't have a premier pass
>>
>>9550015
You get in early to the panel before the one you want and get a good seat.
>>
>>9550015
while they don't help as much with the non clearing rooms they still allow you to not have to go to a previous panel in order to get into the panel you do want to go to.

see: SDCC hall H. people will go to multiple panels they don't give a shit about just so they can be in the room for the panel they do.
>>
>>9550015
This, I went to the entertainment hall after the fashion show, played a bunch of arcade games, walked around a bit, and still just walked back into LP1 for the JoJo panel and got front row seats. I just had a basic 4 day pass too
>>
>>9550010
True I forgot about that. Although most the shops weren't ready when we went in it was nice being able to get in that early.

I already bought premier again, I don't give a fuck I want all the little extras. Mostly the hotel block/tickets.

So, what's your guys' opinions on physical contact
I try to be real polite, ask for permission to take pictures, etc.
Hoverhanding is beta as hell so I try to avoid it but then I'm just standing awkwardly which is even worse lmao
I was with a friend and he'd just go in for the kill, hands over shoulders.
What does /cgl/ think? Don't want to ruffle any feathers, but also don't wanna look beta

Excited to go back next year though. Hoping lines will be better, but I'm seriously doubting it.

Are you attractive?
>>
>>9550057
varies per person. if you really want to know then ask. if you don't care then do what your friend did. some people will care if you get handsy and others just brush it off or don't care.

mfw crossdressing friend gets all grabbed up on

as for the lines the panel and autograph ones will stay the same. badge pickup will be better obviously.
>>
>>9550057
i always ask and avoid physical contact unless they say it's ok. some girls get really annoyed by it.

there was a super cute lolita staying at the omni who looked spooked af when some random went in for a hug in the elevator.
