I got into the artist alley, but as much as I trust Crunchyroll, they haven't announced a single guest and have barely advertised it. The con is just a month away, and if at this point they haven't been able to do at least that, I'm not going to bother biting the bullet on it.

That being said they really haven't put anything new on their twitter besides hyping AA. Certainly nothing that would warrant a $300 VIP ticket.

No one cares about fansubs anymore. This isn't 2008- studios actually want to work with localization companies and get revenue. Fansubbers move on and get a JLPT cert because their time is long gone. Sage for offtopic.

I pirate the shows but spend literally hundreds on merch per year, way more than just buying the blurays of the shows I like.

I dunno, I did some snooping because I was thinking about sharing a table space with a friend for AA, but they have no social media presence, a paltry amount of facebook likes, no significant guest announcements, paneling, or events, AND they're charging triple digits for AA/Dealer's Hall. Also the con is in like two months.

On one hand, Crunchy Roll has a lot of social capital already, but it looks like they're putting all their resources into AX, which is understandable. Still, if they're hoping to even have people show up to their own convention, I feel like they should be doing a little more to generate interest and excitement. The fact that they're charging so much for booths is also kind of suspect.

Magwest hasn't announced more than some bands but at least the Magfest brand is known for low key musical guests and gaming.

MAGWest will most likely have a better arcade, video game selection and will have 24 hour free play

Crunchyroll will most likely have better anime guests and cosplay events

Even if it's a whatever convention, I can see it becoming big due to brand name alone.

First real will really be growing pains, so it's probably up to the fans to decide crunchyroll cons identity.

I say turn it into a party/hangout con hard and fast before it gets too corporate, which is it's eventual fate. (moreso since it's crunchyroll)
