It's a shame CLAMP can't write a good story for shit and have some incredibly bizarre sexual hang ups, their clothes designs are always spectacular. I despised chobits, but like hell did I pass up the chance to make some of those gorgeous costumes. Still one of if not the best wardrobes in manga in terms of variety and visual interest. Not over designed like Sakizou, but still unique and visually interesting.

Yeah, that's the whole creepy point. This idea that "if he truly loves her he won't have sex with her" and that's why her "parents" put her on/off switch in her robogina. So if anyone has sex with her she'll reset. So if anyone truly loves her they won't have sex with her. It's just so creepy. The other theme present that you may have missed is almost every character in the story is trying to replace a human being with a robot. I mean, it's got happy points, but really the overall ending was kind of sad. I mean, he straight out gets told, 'No matter how much you love her, she'll never have real emotions.' Uh, the guy gets reminded of that when he's asked if he'll 'replace his wife' with a newer model, one dude tries making a replacement for his sister before realizing he can never actually bring his sister back. Even the main characters were created to replace human children for a mother who couldn't have kids only for her to lose her 'kids' due to faulty programming. Then you got the children's books that start out, 'They'd rather be with 'them' then real people,' is what is hinting at. So, there's a lot hinting at an A.I. can never replace a human.

It's kind of a dark message really. I don't find it creepy, but I don't find the majority of the story 'happy'. Every person's story pretty much ends in disaster.

Holy crap, that is beautifully put. Looking at it that way, it not only is about the sexual exploitation of women, but also about the separation between love and sex-- love, as presented in this, should be innocent and childlike, whereas Freya's "lust" is seen as dangerous and destructive. It actually ties in to CLAMP's previous works very well- "true" love is asexual and thereby pure. Consider the contrast between Oruha and Sue in Clover. Also, Zagato and the adult "evil" Emeraude versus the little girl Emeraude who reached out to the Knights in Rayearth.


Thank you guys for indulging me in this derail, usually when I said I didn't like Chobits I just got a lecture about how I didn't get it and just didn't "get" CLAMP.

You know, I was so shocked at Elda's story that I never noticed that- but you're absolutely right. When you look back in Chobits, time and time again Persocom's are seen as being tools used to replace humans, and though these Persocom's are incapable of feeling, humans would rather project their love or affections onto something incapable of reciprocation than be alone.

Holy crap this series is already pretty dark, but the more you look into it, it's not just dark-- it's downright bleak. There is a terrible loneliness in persocoms. This I do believe might be reading too much into it, but I wonder if there isn't something to be said about that message in contrast to hikikimori culture, where younger and younger people, while even shutting themselves out from the real world, still turn to synthetic replacements for human company by way of computers and games. Because even the shyest person doesn't want to be completely alone.

The father resets her. Now, it would imply he is the one that decided to put her 'reset' button down there, yes. It mentions he gave her a 'special program' when he reset her, so he very well put the reset down there as part of the special program installed after her creation.

Tried making this one when I was 16. The very definition of ambitious but rubbish. Gold taffeta works great for the bodice and a red velvet circle skirt with interfacing holds those pleats beautifully. Layer black on black Venice lace and thread red ribbon between them and you get a lovely texture.

I'll try looking for some cosplay later tonight to post. I seem to remember that good cosplay from the series was really hard to find. Not surprising, considering it requires a roughly 5 foot long wig and some mad sewing skills.

I think the other thing that makes cosplay from the series hard is Freya and Elda are insinuated to be 'inhumanely' pretty throughout the whole series.

Going to try avoid picking images that are stock photos for sales. First one because the bodysuits themselves are completely on point. I love the details of the 'jewels'.

Its not exactly that shes got the mind of a toddler but that she literally now knows nothing, which wasnt always the case. She has to be taught everything from scratch like a child, which does adds to her naivety and thus "innocence" and people think its "cute". But in the end shes literally a robot that needs to relearn. The more she does the less "toddler" like shes going to be, she will "grow up" as long as Hideki keeps teaching her and letting her experience new things.
