Can we all just agree that things like aristocrat ouji and dandy aren't really Lolita? I hate how whenever someone bring this up the first counter argument is "YA WELL IN JAPAN". One day, I’d like to be able to respond with "Too bad, son, I'm putting them down. Step aside, I'm a professional." Of course, that’s a lie. I’m not a professional. But I have to start somewhere.

I despise seeing men wear this shit to a meet. You want to be a lolita? Then you have to wear a fucking dress. That's right, get those nappies on. Then all us girls get to poke fun at you when you get an embarrassing erection from wearing girl clothes.
>>
>>9383648
i hate ouji and aristocrat and i especially hate it when men use it to shoehorn themselves into meets. if you want to sit with us at a meet you better be wearing lolita.
>>
>>9383648
>Then all us girls get to poke fun at you when you get an embarrassing erection from wearing girl clothes.
I think it's clear what you really want here.
>>
Agreed. It's definitely just my personal taste and biases but fuck guys look like LARPers or some shit in ouji / dandy and they rarely do it well and it just looks badand pathetic.
>>
Lolita is stemmed from Victorian fashion. So is Ouji et al. They come in under the same umbrella of fashion.

They are all an off branch of Lolita.

Your personal opinion has no power. Do some history research before you spew stupid shit.

Just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it's not Lolita.
>>
>>9383703
it's not lolita
>>
>>9383648
It's not lolita, but it's similar enough to warrant inclusion and definitely preferable to seeing men in dresses.

Ouji is literally the masculine version of lolita, aristocrat is not a separate style in Japan, it is just the A in mana's term.

this

mentioning "dandy" at all showcases your ignorance, OP. but you didn't say "kodona" so points for that.
>>
>>9383866
That's an article for women with women models though. "Boystyle" is mostly a women's look, I have nothing theoretically against men wearing it but I rarely see adult men look good in it.
>>

>get those nappies on.

>>
>>9383872
it is just an example where ouji is specifically called a male version of lolita, in english, so anyone on the board can read it. whether or not men look good in it wasn't part of OP's argument; OP said only dresses are lolita enough for meets.

OP's diction sounds suspiciously like a (male) shitposter from a certain discord. OP, is that you?
>>
I agree that most men look awful in ouji/aristocrat but I still prefer them wearing men's clothing a hundred times over gross men wearing dresses. Lolita is my normal clothes and I don't want men who don't pass for women to make it into a joke. For 95% of men it's a fetish or humiliation thing and I don't want to be associated with that shit.

If I know a "brolita" is going to be at a meetup I strongly consider not going. Of course any normal person will assume it's a costume or fetish thing if there's men walking around with us. Lolita is women's clothing, and if a man wants to join the community he can do so by wearing a men's equivalent to it, which is still going to be ouji or aristocrat.
>>
>>9383881
I just want a pretty comm. I'll take a well-dressed, cute male lolita over a female milanoo hambeast any day.

cute male lolita > ugly female lolita

mediocre male ouji > female ita

Just be cute, whatever your gender. Ugliness and bad taste should stay home.
>>
>>9383885
I can get into this but I still think that a badly dressed girl is infinitely better than a man in an acceptable coord who clearly looks like a man. There's no way to avoid this giving off sissy vibes and I'd be entirely embarrassed to be seen with them.
>>
>>9383885
>cute male lolita
The problem is they don't exist.
>>
>>9383881
>>it's a fetish or humiliation thing

linking lolita to humiliation now in my head. It never occurred to me that way, but it's kinda a funny way of seeing it,

The next thing I will have to think of seeing a group o lolitas at a train station is how they are all humiliating theirselves in public.

I don't think they would apprecciate that thought though.

Bait but w/e

I live in a town with a shit tonne of steampunks. At our last meeting a few dudes wearing a not Victorian suit and goggles turned up. It was Bro-ita to the max.

But I have no problem with Ouji and Dandies coming along. Better than some Dorito edgelord in a fedora. We're probably gonna spend most of our time together talking about clothes. As long as they accept that, it's game.

IMO men are only allowed to show up to meets if they are dressed well in ouji, lolita, or aristocrat. I don't care how much you love your boyfriend and how much he admires it from afar, leave him at home if he doesn't dress in it (and if he's an ita leave him at home too)
>>
It doesn't mater what you think. Lolita brands put out ouji sets. Ouji is in lolita fashion shows and covered in the G&L Bible all the time. Sometimes the ouji pieces can even be used in lolita. It's undeniably the masculine counterpart of lolita.
>>
OP is an arrogant walnut and needs to fuck right off.
Ouji is a wonderful sibling fashion and I never want it to die.

Mana-sama might use custom EGL but he fits regular EGA i believe. AatP's men's ouji is similar. in fact what i personally believe, after some hours of dream meditation, as far as why not all AatP ouji is available in men's sizing, is if Isobe-sensei wouldn't wear it, they don't offer it in men's. this is the true power of Isobe-sensei.

You know, I wish there were a properly masculine equivalent of Lolita. I used to date a girl who was mostly into Classic and would've loved to be able to dress up with her, but ouji and aristocrat are really designed for "boyish" girls and look ridiculous on any decently manly man.

I kind of have an image in my head of what it could be - somewhere between Edwardian/Victorian men's suits and anime butler outfits - but probably won't actually make one unless I end up dating another Lolita first, because otherwise I'll probably just end up as greentext in some cringe thread or other.

For reals, though. I'm sure that if I as a (passable) dude started showing up at a lolita meet, ya'll would go home in under an hour and post threads like these.
I like lolita, but I don't think I'd ever be welcome as a crossdresser. Yet some want me to wear a dress and others are disgusted just by the idea of that alone.

It's a negative sum game, no matter what I do? I'll always upset someone.
The only winning move is not to come to meets.

the brands that release men's sizes are designed for men. Moitie, Boz, AatP. Boz releases clothes that sound like what you are describing. F+F does Boz ripoffs in custom sizes if you are large.

also alice auaa has a men's line, which is designed for men.

not every brand has androgynous women in mind, just Japanese men. other ethnicities might have trouble fitting, but brands like F+F, Elegy, Ikemen Mode (if you can catch them since the mofos still have not updated their site), Fidel David (same), and various Taobao brands offer Euro sizing. you can have a nice coord within the ouji/EGA range if you can spare a couple hundred dollars.

i know, and even the ouji stuff made for ladies is getting goofier every season. but there is always second hand.

speaking of second hand, BPN for Men is another brand that was designed, as the name suggests, for males. pic related, on the left. unfortunately no brand, East or West, has filled the void they left. imo the projects the designers dispersed toward do not fill the casual-to-fancy-men's-gothic niche BPN for Men had. a lot of oujis/aristocrats use the brand in their coords, and male street fashionistas in Tokyo still wear it too. the pieces are often very versatile for those who can find/fit them.

Some of it is very feminine as of late and way too small. Some of their stuff does still go up to 105+cm though. Boz also released that one recent jacket that goes up to 108cm bust. Most ouji stuff is low 90s though sadly.

There are white men who are not super short who wear the fashion. Pretty sure this guy is 5'11ft.

there's the obvious: dress well/put in the effort & mind what you say-never get creepy or flirty unless you have that kind of friendship with someone else at a meet.

if someone tries to give you shit just for being a male the rest of the comm will likely come to your defense if you have a good reputation.

I've been doing Ouji for a few months now and I usually stick to brand clothing and don't experiment much with the fashion because ~beginners anxiety~ about doing things wrong. Is the ouji thread but to anwser your question: it depends on what items.

Lots of brands release dresses that could totally work as a jacket/vest if you style it right. Pic is an example. The only thing that bothers me in ouji coords with lolita items is very feminine headresses and shoes (like teaparties) in ouji coords.

Yeah, I just couldn't do most of that effeminate stuff that's out there. It's not just body type either, even if it fit me perfectly my face would still look totally ridiculous on top of it. I'd look just as silly in that stuff as I would in a dress, maybe even moreso.

As for still being into it, that's because I was into it before my ex and was sort of the one who got her into it. She also didn't really participate in the community, just wore stuff with a few friends, mostly at cons, so we weren't really exposed to the "dark side" of the lolita scene either.

It has its roots from it. The Japanese took Victorian fashion, particularly that that the dolls and children wore, added print and colour to it and that's how you got Lolita. The West then adopted it back.

Long story short. Had to do a project of historical clothing that has come back in some way.

not all men are petite young androgynous japanese boys, some of us are built so wide and tall etc BIG that it looks ridiculous for us to wear something designed for very thin boys/tomboy girls

He's right, masculine men look incredibly silly in boyish lolita garb. And what, you're saying you'd rather have Steampunk shit at meets?? We already have enough problems with that cringefest showing up.
Honestly besides his idea of being more butlery looking or high class aristocrat (or whatever the fancy version is called) there isn't really anything masculine

The person in the pic is a girl.

His fashion sense is good, except for the wireframe glasses and the fact that his clothes obviously don't fit. In the 1st pic look at that top.

Even more than lolita, the "aristo" brands go way too small to fit most western guys.

For those manly dudes who don't really fit into one-size Japanese brands, advice I used to hear was to go with Western goth style instead, specifically Romantic Goth was supposed to be a near-perfect match for Aristo.

For those guys who want to match their classic/sweet lolita gf, I'd say western dandy style seems like the best match, the suits come in some lovely sweet colours.

A bit of departure from discussing jfashion as per the original topic, but eh, the topic is shit anyway, might as well suggest some alternative ideas for those guys who seem to be struggling with the lack of a style for manly dudes.

Aristo came later than Romantic Goth - it's like a cross between Romantic goth and Visual Kei, is about the easiest way to describe the difference.

Just wear a nice suit if you absolutely have to be there imo. All of the j-fashions and so on for men look so faggy. Never understood why so many lolitas are into making their bfs look so ... gay.

>implying clothes have objective connotations with specific sexualities
>implying there is any way for a Western man in Western society to dress well without being called some variant of "fag"
>implying lolitas care at all about conforming to someone else's ideal of manhood or womanhood
>implying most female lolitas with bfs aren't raging fujoshi or bis who prefer androgyny anyway

if you want to dissuade lolitas from dressing up their bfs, pick a reason that is actually likely to discourage them. also we're in a homo triangle with /fa/ and /fit/ when it comes to appreciating male aesthetic, and most users on each of these three boards have come to terms with their actual or apparent faggotry.

Why is it that whenever someone expresses they don't like something, it's assumed they're somehow demanding other people don't do it? I don't give a fuck what other lolitas are doing, it's just something I would never do and can't really get the motivation behind. For me personally, if my bf agreed to let me dress him up I would lose all respect for him. You guys carry on doing whatever you want though?

Read the thread, or at least the bits taking about the lack of clothes for manly men. It's not the girls who are talking.

It's called nice suits or slacks and button shirts

Asian beauty standards. In Japan and Korea the hot straight guys are skinny, androgynous, spend a lot of time on their hair, and may wear makeup, while the butch gym rat is a gay stereotype.
