There's a new trend called "cosplay aesthetics"

It bothers me that people are so entirely unfazed with using photos that are actually under a license which allows editing/reposting, or at the very least sourcing the photos. None of these that I've seen has any sort of source link for the photos that are NOT of the cosplayer themselves.

Also, not something that lends itself well to people who have mainly/exclusively selfies and hallway photos.

I tend to see these more as fandom edits that borrow cosplayers as faceclaims than actually cosplay focused posts. I agree that >>9350239 is irritating, but I don't see it as much worse than making fandom playlists that people can download or gif sets from torrented videos. I do think it's shitty when cosplayers aren't sourced, just as its shitty when fanartists aren't sourced on reposts. Guess it's one of those irritating but ultimately not worth starting shit over things.

Really? I only see cosplayers doing this. There are fandom aesthetic posts that have been popular for a long time but the cosplay aesthetic hashtag on instagram have all been cosplayers making them. It's become a real instagram meme at this point and there's thousands of posts in it.

The sheer volume is starting to piss me off desu

Plus the majority of them are really badly done. The photo collage choice is bad, but in others it's bad cosplay photography and then they use someone elses photo without permission or credit to make it look semi decent.

I've never been a fan of mood boards. I don't frequent the sites where they are popular. Either way, I wouldn't complain about them.

I think the concept is pretty cute, but 90% of the people making them have no sense of aesthetic or color theory. so it looks like shit.

I actually really like them desu, but I see a lot of people doing "moodboards" instead of "aesthetics" with things completely unrelated to the costumes and just match a color palette. It looks silly to me to have a costume next to some gummies just because they looks similar.

Actually another thought, I really prefer them when they're made in such a way that you don't see the cosplayer face, like with the Pearl one. I think it suits the whole "aesthetic" aesthetic. And it shows of the costuming and characterisation more.

Yeah, that's definitely a lobster, but it loses contextual meaning if it's not in a "lobster dinner" setting. The image is a reference to the characters talking about going to "that restaurant with the amazing lobster" when the protag comes home from his mission.
