I'm so glad they changed the floor plan at DCC. Maybe this time around you can actually hear what's going on at the Main Stage rather than the arcade cabinets and dealers blasting loud music.

Here, have a quick touch-up.
>>
Do you guys prefer making a cosplay from games or anime?

I like watching anime but tend to rather make cosplays from games. I think because it tends to be more detailed.
>>
>>9288205
I know several people who have that one, it's so cute, and I'm jelly!
>>9288252
Vote for next OP picture! Love it!

As being the one that originally suggested Tully a long long time ago as OP picture, I really hope we can have more talk about cute Japanese mascots (preferably those with a Dutch theme).

>>9288254
I love game costumes, but the details also drive me nuts. I still need to cosplay some game characters I love, but their designs are so intimidating.
>>
>>9288213
Sure! Not sure when it will arrive, but I'll post a pic in this or next Dutch threads!
>>
>>9288254
Same here. But I barely watch any Anime anymore. To make Anime cosplays interesting you almost always have to add details and weathering, or it looks too...clean or cartoony. But that's how I feel about it.
>>
>>9288194
Loving the Nethergundam pic OP!
>>
>>9288254
I've never actually cosplayed before (here for nonexistent lolita and general Dutchie talk) but the only characters in my "maybe some day" list are from games. I'm not sure why though. I think anime costumes tend to be either overly simple or unrealistic, and of course more cartoony. Although I also play more games than I watch anime so that may be it.
>>
>>9288194
That picture is pure gold, I like it.
>>
>>9288664
I can agree with you, the only anime I watch right now is yuri on ice. I do like anime cosplays but I think I would never cosplay one..
>>
>>9288254
I've done both with no real preference, but since I'm into games more my last few have been games cosplays. Although I also did something Pokémon, so that technically overlaps? I don't know, heh.
>>
So, with Tsunacon skipping a year the only semi decent j-convention(so excluding the elfias and comiccons) between now and animecon is Yaycon, who conveniently also took the approximate same day as tsuna had. Their dealer applications just closed and honestly I'm pretty interested to see what it'll be like.
Any other gulls planning to go?
>>
>>9288745
I was thinking the same thing, now that tsuna is skipping a year the only con before animecon that I might go to is yaycon.
>>
>>9288745
I went last year (they didnt have an edition this year) and i regret spending 20 bucks on it. It's super expensive but super small. The location isn't jack shit, it's not worth it imho
>>
I kind of feel out of place at yaycon but it's a pretty relaxed con. Pretty small though, but yey no kids running around. I'm still thinking about vidcon but a ticket is 100 euros :/
>>
>>9288752
Ugh! Gaycon. Nops. Not going. Too many gay anime people at one con.
>>
How important is it to have an anime/japanese related cosplay when you compete at Animecon or Abunai? (As opposed to comic or western game cosplays)
>>
>>9288788
Read the rules. Animecon has specific rules for certain competitions. Some of these competitions have a rule that you can't compete with cosplays from certain series, I'd look at the rules of the competition you're applying for if I were you.

Also, be careful with copyright. They apparently like own voiced stuff better than things that come from a song or straight out of an anime/game. This can be a problem in certain competitions.
>>
I'm a sucker for old anime like Scrapped Princess, Irresponsible Captain Taylor and Trigun, but people hardly recognize any of those cosplays so it's hard to find people who are fans too and if I want photo's, I will have to arrange something myself because people are not interested in making them. :(
>>
>>9288794
Where?
>>
>>9288798
on AFN, some guy asked for hentai with a plot.
>>
>>9288664
Reminds me of Naruto. Most cosplayers use really plain fabric, but then the live action musical came along with top notch fabric, to show everyone how these costumes are really suppose to look. But having an eye for these things is tough though, and not to mention, high quality fabric is expensive.
>>
>>9288811
Well you wouldn't have known otherwise, I've never seen a top quality naruto cosplay. While as somebody makes a giant dress out of cheap fabrics, you're going to notice.

Games, mostly as there aren't that many male anime characters I find interesting, fit my body, and don't wear a dull costume. Plus with games you can take some creative freedoms like using alternative skins, different weapons and props. Also collecting reference material is easy as everything is already in the game. Just toggle the free cam or view the models and you're set. The only exception here are first person only games and older games with low poly counts. Looking at you, HEV suit model from HL2...

>Vote for next OP picture! Love it!
That was part of the reason I (poorly) retouched it in the first place, with the other part being the next door baby keeping me up again. Mascots are fine, just start dumping a few to get things going. The thread will be slow anyway until the next con takes place and then we'll also have a slow period around Christmas. If anything I'm surprised the threads are still active despite it being winter.
Also have we met by now or not? Just curious.

>>9288689
>>9288711
Me too, I hope we get to see a a Nethergundam cosplay at a con some day.

>X says she will find and expose the snitches yet never searched for said snitch in the mirror
I see you too saw that post by S. Still, kudos for S explaining how /cgl/ isn't all that bad in a comment. Way too many people like to blindly jump on the "4chan is AIDS" bandwagon.
>>
Didn't kno dutch people could be bluepilled harder than to dress up like these lil' fairy ass motherfuckers.
>>
>>9288884
There's a difference in talking unanimously about someone you don't like and anonymously like you're doing right now anon.

thank god not everyone is a pussy who hides behind an anonymous name to shittalk about someone they have a personal Vendetta with.

cheers!
>>
>>9288888
the reason P started to create a so called mess was because he had a personal problem with M. He had tried several ways to contact M but after being ignored by her after wanting a conversation he went petty Shaniqua on her. which I agree wasn't smart considering M is a 4chan kween and how many white knights she has.

but oh well, they still aren't low enough to shittalk about people they don't like anonymously, unlike M and her sister and M's bff.
>>
Love how people are complaining about posting anonymously. This is 4chan, remember?

Oh and while I'm on the topic: When you're shitposting it doesn't really make you a worse/better person if you're doing it (un)anonymously. It might make you less of a coward, but you're still a shitposter.

I love all of you shitposters though.
>>
>>9288881
A recent post that's semi-relevant to the community (due to his drama history) =/= porn tape that's many many years old. Sharing that private status was shitty but bringing up something dark from a persons past that they have explained several times that they're really uncomfortable with is extremely petty. We're no saints here but Ximena is a cunt.
>>

Dutch people are all crazy and weird. All the men are single autistic stalkers and all the women date foreigners or sell used panties online. In Dutch land mud is everywhere so shoes all get very dirty and the wind blows at gale force speed so nobody wears bangs. When the wind and the mud combines they call this look Black Pete, it's a popular fashion look like ganguro. With one of the highest tax rates in the world everything is double priced except for cannabis. Getting a convention ticket can cost over $100 per day because the country is so small it costs so much to rent land.
>>
>>9288896
Are you taking the moral high ground because at least when X bullies someone she does it with her name attached? Cheers!

>>
>>9288905
Nana is quite rude :)
She puts people in group chats and spams them with messages or promotions, and when you ask her to quit it she tends to give you a foul mouth.

I agree that was really gross, however nana's porn was publically advertised on a porn site. Pedro's post wasn't advertised, it felt like more of a venting to me and speaking his mind??? idk

y'all need to let people change and close off a chapter IF they are open to it.

Pedro his post was friends only, 'Nana' her porn is public, by this logic pedro getting backstabbed while he thought he had thrown the dirt out is worse than some kid who made the choice to do porn, then tries to defend herself on here by saying she does so much for the community, while she used to sell bootleg and now fight against it.
>>
>>9288915
She does it unanimously so yeah, at least we'll know she is trash.
unlike some anon's here who are still too pu$$y to come through their personal Vendettas imho.

>y'all need to let people change and close off a chapter IF they are open to it
Unless they are rude and spam people in group chats, then they deserve to have that chapter brought up for a cheap laugh whenever anyone feels like it!
>>
>>9288919
I do like Nana and was close friends with her for a while, until she became like Tim Scam. Scamming is not ok what so ever
>>
>>9288926
I haven't seen Nana trying to change for scamming people. I don't really care that much about her porn past, what Ximena did was shitty I agree, it was very much slutshaming. But you're all no angels either sharing that post and having a laugh fyi.

ever considered going to people and telling you have a problem with them instead of anonymously shit talking? Or is that too autistic for you to understand.
>>
>>9288916
I'm more than willing to let people "close a chapter" IF they actually change. Pedro did not. He started shit in the same post where he said he wanted to start over (essentially calling those he removed trash and stating the Animecon staff are a bunch pedophiles) and then he and his crew proceeded in their usual way here. If he really wants to change than I'll be more than happy to support him, but as it stands he is still the same tea sipping POS as always.
And as always, defending people on /cgl/ only makes things worse and keeps the discussion alive. My advice? Move on and so shall we.
>>
>>9288940
>Move on and so shall we
You’re obviously still upset with him otherwise you wouldn’t be here lol.

Yes, I would call people trash too if all I wanted to do is talk shit out and get banned because of it. He removed people who are still friends with M and that's good for him.

Let him sip tea if he does who cares, and if changes or not we’ll have to see for our selves
>>
>>9288919
Difference is: Nana's porn was threatening or hurting nobody. I guess some people got off on it. So no need to be fired up about that.
Pedro threatened people on a livestream, insulted others during the same vid and in his post he says the people of Animecon are pedophiles.
I am not a fan of Nana, but Pedro is a pretty sad failed bully with anger issues. That this guy has backstabbers around him is because birds of a feather...
As for Ximena, I heard her being described yesterday as our cosplay version of Sylvana Simons.
>>
>>9288946
Pedro? threathening?
LOL

the video I saw was cringy asf, but I don't recall him wanting to hit or punch someone :v

or I guess talking to someone face to face is a threat if you're only used to shit talk on facebook like Myra.
>>
>>9288946
Can we just throw all of these people in a pit and have them fight it out? They're all trash.
>>
>>9288939
Scamming isn't related to porn. Bring up the scamming as much as you want but calling attention to her porn past as a punishment for something completely unrelated is an awful thing to do.

Seems like I was wrong, this time around we did took the bait from last threads "drama"...
>>
>>9288958
Even if this Nana chick was officially on trial for scamming, something like this would not be allowed to be brought up in the courtroom because its only purpose is to paint the defendant as a slut. It's completely irrelevant to the scamming accusations.
These are schoolyard bully tactics. Grow the fuck up.
>>
>>9288963
Dayum way to go way beyond my point. What I meant was what gets on the internet stays on the internet. I'm sure if people dig deep enough they can stir up some shit about me as well. Damn op was indeed wrong it's the same drama all over again.

>>
>>9288881
Both is wrong. End of story. Friends only = you don't share that shit. Even the certain stuff he typed, just let it go. He'll come around. And if you're gonna judge Nana, judge her something that's relevant, like her poor formulation of arguments. Or scamming, if what other anon said is true.
>>
>>9288946
>>9288951
Not say that what Pedro said wasn't bad. But when it comes to being 'threatening' I was more concerned about the way Silas was talking about Chris, than the way Pedro was talking about Myra.
>>
>>9288927
>Scam

Nana doesn't scam anyone. It's the other cosplayer-gone-Kim-Holland, Emily, who does that.
>>
>>9289062
I'm surprised more cosplayers haven't done porn actually.
>>
>>9289045
Honestly, it wasn't even threatening. Come on guys are you all serious? Pedro wanted to have a honest conversation with Myra to clear up things. She kinda ruined it by "acting threatened". That animecon is falling for it... There are even screenshots in which she states that she wanted Pedro banned and that she'd do everything for that. Guess she got what she wanted.
>>
>>9289089
I want Siasity banned.
>>
>>9289089
But that's my point. Silas was more threatening than Pedro, yet no one says a thing about that.

>>
Hey Silas here. Cool and all that you're discussing this behind my back instead of addressing this to my face (which I would have appreciated so much more desu), but y'all should stop worrying about me being a threat since the situation with Chris has been long sorted out. On top of that I would like to add you hardly know anything about the details of the situation. Please keep your name out of my mouth unless you've spoken to me first. Thanks.
>>
Idk why the hell my phone added 'desu' to that sentence, but oh well.
>>
>>9289107
I highly doubt people will say it to your face, as you can be quite threatening. Just saying as I will back away slowly.

>>
>>9289107

>>
Thanks. I highly appreciate that. And yes, I'm very aware of how I came across in that video as I was genuinely pissed off at that moment. That's just how I get when people talk behind my back so I assume you can understand why I prefer to avoid another similar situation. :)
>>
>>9289145
No problem, and thanks for explaining. I kind of feel bad for mentioning you now, so sorry for that.

And I guess in general, we should just stop discussing old things like that video here.

You can always post whenever you're going to a con. I tend to drift between groups at cons anyway so freeing up some time to meet up with people easy. >>
>>9289716
The prognosis for fashion is about 45-60% to find matching work after you finish. For engineering and computers it's about 60% so the gap is not big enough to do something you don't love just for employment.

It turns out a lot of people also wear clothes so the global fashion industry is valued at over 3 trillion dollars, about 2% of the world's GDP.
>>
>>9289779
>The prognosis for fashion is about 45-60% to find matching work after you finish

But really, how many people you know who has finished some sort of fashion school really ended up working in fashion?
And I'm not counting 'sociale werkplaats' or inheriting the Turkish bridal fashion shop from your mom.

Most girls (ie. all except two) I know who studied that ended up either settling for office odd-jobs or juggling unemployment.

This is the exact attitude that kept me from doing what I wanted and indeed with me landing in unemployment school. And then leaving the country because I couldn't handle the system anymore (they will keep you in poverty once you're in there).

My advice? Screw the 'you're going to be unemployed' and go for it 100%. Make sacrifices. They have to be made regardless. The right way is NEVER easy, but go for it. If you put your heart and soul in it, it will be visible. Your passion can become your greatest asset. People thought the same of me when I left NL to go and study Propmaking. "What is it?" "Are there jobs in it?" And I just said to them that "No. There aren't any jobs in it. Not in The Netherlands. That's why I'm leaving so I can chase my dream and do it in a country where there are jobs in it."

And now I've worked for a blockbuster that comes out in a few years, have made a bikerscout helmet for the star wars celebration for charity that got auctioned off for £460, I've got great connections in the industry, people are amazed by what I do, I work hard and through my breaks, people know what to expect from me and in April I'm going to Hollywood.

TL;DR:
Do it, don't let them bring you down and never give up!
>>
>>9289791
That number is at the level of the diploma. Their work number is 75-80% which means 20% could be at a Turkish bridal shop or odd jobs. 20% unemployed within 18 months. This isn't too different from other industries.

Just think how many boys that studied computer science just work as a programmer or web developer now? It's the exact same thing. They studied science and engineering and now they do digital factory work that could be outsourced to India.

If you want to hedge your bets you can also take a minor in a different industry like technology or business. As a Fashion designer, you can also take classes in digital fashion and 3D fashion design with 3DSMAX and Maya3d, then you can take a minor in Game Art and learn how to do 3D animation. Now you can apply to 2 entirely different industries, if you do it smart it's better than doing something you don't like and always being in the bottom 50%...

There are also different tracks to choose from. Fashion technology focuses on practical design and creation. Fashion design leans more to art and expression. Fashion business is a business degree with fashion aspects. Fashion journalism focuses on the media and I think a lot more on the forecasting aspects of a fashion degree.

Most degrees pair with big businesses and brands for internships as part of the degree. That can give you a chance for a job there when you graduate. Fashion design at art universities host shows which give you name recognition and build your portfolio.

These are 4 year bachelors studies by the way, they're not 1 year sewing courses.

This is so cool I am happy for you.

Your story is really nice and inspirational anon, I just wish I had a passion for something. I thought I did and I started a course in it but ended up hating it and dropping out halfway through. Then I fell into depression and I can't brig myself to do or enjoy anything. Wish you could just create passion, but at this point all I wish for is just getting a quiet office job that I can live off (though I think even that is a tall ask in today's society)
>>
>>9289716
>>9289791
>But really, how many people you know who has finished some sort of fashion school really ended up working in fashion?

If we only think about design, you can also specialise in branding and marketing, then I know a lot of people. Also some who dropped out and just started for themselves (but I'm more exposed to it because I work in the modelling world).
Fashion isn't much different then other business related fields: it has a 'best of the best' mentality, it's ups and downs and it's not guaranteed you'll find a job right away.
If you succeed is purely based on mentality, talent and a little bit of luck.

The school you go to also helps a lot. A random ROC won't get you far if you don't work really hard. But on the otherside the infamous ArtEZ has a low precentage of succeeders thanks to its hungergames-like teaching methods (but the ones who make it end up really high).

It's a world with risks. But I'm more then happy to set my teeths in it.

>>9289779
>It turns out a lot of people also wear clothes so the global fashion industry is valued at over 3 trillion dollars, about 2% of the world's GDP.

I had that moment too. And I tried everything. Traindriver, the airforce, orderpicking, and in the end I became a helpdesk agent. It took me years to find what I wanted. I have failed two bachelor's degrees and several years of various jobs and unemlployment before I found my passion. There's nothing wrong with taking time. It's a big decision after all. Stabilise, prioritise, realise and then go after it.

I can only respond with what I'm aware of as a neutral person. But it was just a facebook discussion about yaoi that got escalated way too much. Pedro acted a bit sensitive over the topic (though he has his reasons), and Myra's response was the fighting fire with fire type (though it was in defense of the topic) . From there on things only got worse. Oh well, it may or may not be the full story of what happened. But to my belief, there isn't a good and bad guy in this. It's just something the two should talk out and settle by themselves.
>>
>>9289933
That sounds really stupid, I hear people talking about Pedro getting banned and beef with Animecon. And then it turns out it's just a Facebook discussion. People really need to calm down.
>>
>>9289089
>>9289933

It was something like that, yes. Apparently Pedro has something against yaoi, because it's degenerative to gays (like himself) or something like that. So he starts throwing a tantrum. Myra replies in the lines of "Pedro, go eat a snickers", and from there all hell broke loose...
If you ask me, it was just a way for Pedro to get to play the victim role, get attention, and start shit. But hey, maybe I'm wrong.
>>
>>9289940
The Animecon ban is for what happened after the discussion at Anime2016 itself.

>>
>>9289838
Dude, I started my HBO study straight out of middle school at 17 and I felt like a baby in my year. Lots of people do an MBO first and start in their early twenties. Doubly so for art schools, where a bit of life experience before you start isn't such a bad idea. I regret not doing the same, I feel like I'm graduating too young with too little experience.
>>
>>9289943
Don't forget Pedro & Myra used to be close friends. The only reason Pedro got offended was because Myra started to involve herself in a conversation. It was Pedro vs 5 other girls, one of them accusing him of being a fake gay for not liking yaoi. Myra didn't had any business involving herself in that whole convo if you'd ask me. I hope they both solve this issue and stop this unnecessary drama because desu everyone is getting tired of it by now.

I made the same mistake once, Pedro and I were hella close in the past and once our contact started to vanish I saw him commenting on a facebook post where he was trying to get people to stop cyber bullying a lesbian, i called him a faggot not knowing it was him and he took it very personal. After that he send me messages that he was very angry and disappointed in me, he couldn't care less for what the other people were saying but because he and me had a history he experienced it as a knife through his stomach. I'm pretty sure he felt the same when Myra involved her in that conversation. If it wasn't for her he probably would have long forgotten all of this bs.

There are synthetic dyes, but I can tell you right now that flueel/velours is not going to work. Your best option is airbrushing it with ink/permanent dye.

Velvet doesnt really take in colour from textile dyes, neither the ones for synthetics like polyester. However, you can dye them with fabric spray dye or ecoline like ink, but keep in mind that when you wash it, it will probably be ruined forever. Velvet isn't great to dye honestly

This indeed. Nothing beats a dose of blind ambition, really.

However. Of all the enthousiastic people starting some sort of fun-college, 90% believes they have this blind ambition and drive. But after a couple of years in, they realise their dreams won't be coming true after merely a year of hard work for no money. And then they start wanting stuff that is usually on no list of anyone chasing dreams: a real home (preferrably close to family, for Dutch very important), a stable and steady relationship, a possibility for raising kids. And that gets, given some time, in the way of their original dreams.

>>9289824
>Now you can apply to 2 entirely different industries
So you are a jack of all trades, yet master of none.

Just get it out of your minds. The odds that you will have a job that pays taxes doing 'artsy stuff' (anything with the word 'Artist' or 'Artistic' in it) are very slim.
Even if you are amazingly talented and leave school with an impressive portfolio. You either need to know the right people, or have the money to bring your talents to the spotlights. Or simply be ambitious as I pointed out earlier.

Fashion, arts, and other jobs that rely on popularity all have this hunger-game-aura around them, in a dog eats dog scene, which only have the best of the best floating on top, drifting the remainders to the (un)employment agency. Dutch, with a nauseating 'zesjescultuur' usually don't have what it takes to get them that far. Especially not with the fact that thousands each year graduate at the many arts colleges.
>>

Insulation foam (styrofoam) can be bought at every hardware store (Praxis, Gamma, Karwei, Formido) along with items like PVC tubing, PVC cement and tins of contact glue. Action is great for things like white wood glue (mix with one part water to seal EVA foam and styrofoam) and cheap tape. Foam (EVA) and thermoplastics can be bought online for various prices. Minque is well known for cosplay supplies but expensive as fuck. The UK based Poly-Props was recently shared here with cheap prices and Anon backing them up in terms of quality. Paints and such I always buy at my local craft store, although that's mostly because I'm a huge fan of Liquitex products which they carry in every colour available. As for fabrics, markets (as in "markt") tend to sell them and so do many stores. Google is your friend with that.

I'm sure more Anons have some stores they wish to share. I'll be adding a Google Form to the next OP for easy collecting and turn the results in a Pastebin. Its one if the requests by some Anon from the survey I wanted to do but kept forgetting about.

It's a good thing that all you mentioned in the top paragraph is something I left behind and would gladly give up for it all. But then again, I've already have a foot in the door and all the opportunities I have here and projects I've done, wouldn't have been possible back in the Netherlands. No way.

I won't get it out of my mind, and I won't let you do that. ;) sorry bro, too driven. I don't care about relationships, I don't want children and the thing that would make me the happiest, would be doing what I'm doing now. If you're intimidated by the hunger-games-aura, then you're not right for the job, you got that right. But I'm willing to go for it and be torn to shreds, just so I can rebuild myself (And I got really good at building...ha..that was a bad joke, I know...).

I know what you're getting at, and you're right in a lot of ways, but that's exactly what my dad said and it really blocked me from reaching happiness. Ever since he died I felt a freedom, and again, I can lay down some impressive things I've done within a year of switching countries.

Honestly? It's a bit of what you say, a bit of luck and a lot of networking. You'll be chatting and showing off your work a lot more, than you'll be working in the first few years. Knowing the right people starts with yourself and again, the networking.

It's not that hard really and unless you practice you will always remain shit at organising. The date and main location are already set, so all you have to do is find the right time and a spot at DCC to meet up.
First take a good look at the Saturday schedule for DCC (pic related) and find a timeslot that doesn't has anything interesting going on. My advice, ignore the gaming competitions and panels from unpopular shows/people to make things a bit easier. Feel free to take notes as well, those notes make it easier for you to decide what you really want to do at a con anyway. Once you find a timeslot (or several slots) that would work post it on /cgl/ (protip: post all items related to the meet with a nickname), wait for feedback, and pick the time the meet will happen.
Next pick a place at the con (map has been posted at >>9288212) that is easy enough to find, and share something small so people can recognise you in person. After this it's only a matter of arriving on time and enjoying the company of whoever shows up. Have fun!

>>9290186
>>Now you can apply to 2 entirely different industries
>So you are a jack of all trades, yet master of none.
No you are a master of one trade and a minor of another, but if there is enough synergy between both trades then actually you are a master of two trades. Do you not understand what a minor is?

You sound like you don't understand the world, the economy or where the job market and requirements are going. You don't understand that experts have been warning to diversify for the last decade. You also don't understand that the official study report sheets shows the students do get employment. The statistics say roughly more than half the students get a job in their field at the correct level within the first 18 months and up to 80% are employed. It's slightly lower than the tech studies but it's not a minute fraction. You look down on creativity and think it amounts to nothing but you ignorantly consume the products every year of an industry that you think only provides failure. It's nutty and opposite of reality.

I'm sorry you didn't succeed and now you need to be grumpy and demotivate everyone around you, your tough love is based on imagination instead of the real world. People get actual jobs and the studies get accreditation. Get over it.
>>
>>9290236
>I won't get it out of my mind, and I won't let you do that.

I wasn't planning to. Not to you anyway, because I applaude the kind of ambition and drive you posses. Mostly because we're similar in that aspect.
But I have a hunch that we know each other. Are you ex-Rietveld perchance?

>>9290526

To be truth, I have no clue about minors or synergy. Mostly because my college-days were back in the previous century. Secondly because I dropped out of my college because I was too busy starting my company to bother with stuff like exams.
I'm not grumpy because I didn't succeed (quite contrary), I'm grumpy because I see so many bright young people waste my tax euros on fun studies (back in my days, we didn't have so many fun studies, not because schools couldn't get accreditation, but because schools didn't realise that more fun studies equals more students equals more money), and then real world comes knocking along, and when that dawns upon them, they become depressed and then wasting more of my hard earned tax euros.

Also, I don't look down on creativity. Heck, we're a creative company. I look down on the thousands who think they're creative, yet don't have what it takes. Because the other 90% of the people starting some sort of artistic study don't want to be an entrepeneur. They don't want to put their necks out. In the end, they prefer the 9-to-5 and the steady income because they dream of houses, relationships and kids. I've seen many HKU graduates settle for office administration jobs (or worse, becoming a housewife with an etsy shop) just because they discovered their diploma and talents maybe might fetch them a job, but it's not one where they can leave the parental nest anytime soon (as studies show: http://nos.nl/artikel/2143168-keuzegids-jarenlang-studeren-en-dan-het-minimumloon-verdienen.html ).

Nor am I trying to demotivate people. The smart and ambitious ones see motivation in my text. The dumb and naive won't even read this.
>>

No, we're just discussing why it is a bad idea to go to fashion school where many thousands are trained to make 'concept fashion' or 'high fashion dresses', but none can make a bespoke suit, a market that is in this country dominated by Turks and asians, despite the many unemployed fashion graduates out there.

Well first off they're not your tax euros. The cost of a student is very small, and there are many ways that a student at a college delivers back the investment during their student time. The investment also goes directly into the financing of the institute and it's how colleges are able to pay for things that enrich the country. Second off when a student completes their degree the investment pays back into the tax at a better rate. Experts advise the United States to fund multiple degrees so that more citizens have cross discipline skills and they are not left without work when the old industry changes. This is just sensible economically and it's partly also why there is a bigger push to fund college to keep countries competitive.

I really don't think you are helping anyone and you seem to be quite ignorant about many things. It's great you can even make money like that!

You call them fun studies that didn't exist but many of them are very old and founded originally maybe 50 years ago.

Even checking an online clothing warehouse shop you can find around 100 fast fashion brands listed. These are 100 brands active in the Netherlands and Europe, they're big corporations that employ many people. They have many many designers, and even more design assistants, marketers, branding experts, stylists and so on. Then you are not even counting smaller brands or independent brands, and not even touching on haute couture or niche markets like ball gowns and bridal gowns. It also doesn't count the jobs of fashion media, or external stylists, even display experts, or the textile production and design industry.

So no you don't need to be the most talented best thing ever to get a job in fashion production. It's an absurd thing to even say that really.

It's okay to be ignorant about college or an industry but then don't speak as if you have insight or understand the options and the chances of success.

All you're doing is guessing.

I wish there were more anime fans that are into metal as well...

Get off my lifting plateau, forever stuck at 100bench/70OHP
Further replace partying behaviour with cons/LARPs.
Finish school.
And last but not least work on my leatherworking/sewing skills.

Oh yeah, and somehow get an idea of all the drama going on in here. Because as a newfag I have 0 knowledge of 80% of this thread.
>>
>>9290725
Wsit, that's not a common thing? Pretty much everyone I've met at cons are into hard rock or metal.

>>9290732
You're not missing much, a lot of the drama here is pretty silly anyway.
>>
>>9290734
Well I mean, it's nice to atleast know what it's about. I got too much spare time anyway, else I wouldn't be here.

And I think >>9290725 was being sarcastic?

No I was being serious, most of my anime loving friends like vocaloid, kpop, jpop or mainstream songs the amount of metalheads is rare. I was asking because I want to go to festivals and concerts but usually go alone.
>>
>>9290743
We talking iron/leather armour here, or Cosplay armour?

>>9290749
Ah right, guess you got a little unlucky then. The overlap is ridiculous with nerdy stuff and metal.
>>
>>9290725
i've met so much anime fan metalheads, but it's more common among 80s liners than 90s liners. Like among my anime fan friends born in 1986 are quite some metalheads, but those 1996 usually are more the type that listen to kpop.
>>
>>9290790
I think a pretty big moot point might be male/female ratio's too.
Think for men the amount of metalheads is a whole lot higher than for women. But to be honest I really don't know. All my friends are hardcore/EDM types.
>>
>>9290752
Cosplay armor. Metal/leather sounds amazing but that's a bit too hard I think.

Both metal and Hardcore/EDM here. Love everything that's loud and hard in general, except black and death metal.
>>
Anyone else using cosplanner?
>>
>>9290824
Yeah true. I also like both. But a lot of my friends seem to like one or the other, so it really depends.
>>
>>9290907
yes, i really enjoy using it
>>
>>9290749
Really? There's a ton of metal fans in the weeb scene from my experience, try being into folk punk and post-hardcore. I don't know anyone who's into my music except my boyfriend who I bonded with because of our shared music taste. Look harder, metalheads are easy to spot!
>>
>>9290907
Not me. I prefer to use white boards, post-it's and binders to keep my projects organised. Besides the few digital files I need are already synchronized between my home server and all of my devices anyway. I can see the benefits of using such a site/app, but it's just not for me.
>>
I start like 10 things at the same time, so cosplanner would only be a sad reminder of me having nothing finished yet.

So tomorrow the Animecon competitions sign up will open.. I wonder who will join this year.. next to probably a lot of the regulars. And also ofcourse the cries of everyone on facebook that didn't make it.. Is anyone here going to join?

As an all-round question here: anybody know a good cheaper replacement for light wool?
Starting out on a doublet and hose and it'll look like a pretty pricey adventure, and me being a terrible tailor I'd rather not mess up expensive stuff.
>>9291001
Ah, guess that's for the better to be honest. Tilburg is a shithole, and I can tell, I've been born and raised here. Breda is a lot better, if it weren't for NAC.
>>
>>9291004
It's because when it's 7am in The Netherlands, it's 6am in the UK so I already kind of went 'hlep' on that. But eh...I might as well stay awake and use the day to get quite some work done.

>>9291005
Haha tell me about it. I had to go through it every day, as I'm from Eindhoven and...well...I worked for NAC to sell food, but I'm not a supporter of them. I actually did a project on Tilburg at some point and why the city made me feel sad and unwelcome in some way.
>>
>>9291005
You mean like suit-wool or something else? Because for that I'd recommend viscose but I'm not sure if it is what you mean.
>>
>>9290790
>but those 1996 usually are more the type that listen to kpop.

Should be 2000/2001+. I'm from 1996 and the amount of people my age, who like both metal and anime is ridiculously long.

>>9290805
Well, if OP mostly talks to males it could explain some things. I've noticed you have a high change that a female metalhead is into cosplay/going to cons than a male metalhead. (Or maybe it are only my friends who are the lazy fucks).
>>
>>9291014
Eh, doublet and hose as in the historical silly stuff, with the puffy sleeves and the fact that pants are kept up by little strings inbetween your shirt and pants. That and everything is slightly too tight.

Late medieval times are weird.
But yeah, guide says wool, but it's a historical reenactment guide. And I don't do reenactment, so I'm kinda looking for a cheap same look and feel modern alternative.

>>9291013
Although I complain about my own city I somehow wince up when other people do it.
You know, like how you're the only person allowed to bully your sister. And if somebody else does it you'll glass them.

Even though you're right. When you come into Tilburg by train it looks like a depressing pile of ex-industry.

>>9291015
I think there's a big chance that female metalheads will like cons, but that might have to do with there being less of them. If a girl is into 'weird' stuff like metal, the chance she's into other weird stuff too is higher.

And since it's less likely for a girl to be into metal, I guess it's just that they're more into 'weird' stuff i.g.
>>
>>9291019
To be fair, that's how I described Tilburg. I don't hate the place, but I just feel like the 'aura of the industrial revolution' never really got lifted. That was way back in 2008/2009 though, so things may have changed. Last time I passed it was when I was doing a bike-ride from Eindhoven to Schiedam and had a small break there. On the way back by train the next day I wasn't really looking. Haha

You're definitely right, although with the new upgrade to the CS it's a bit better. And more accescible too.

Still the city is ugly. My own little ugly city mind you, but ugly nontheless.

>>9291015

I like it more this way.

1991 here. On the border of a major change in fashion, music and lifestyle. Looking back it's been a weird 25 years. From no internet and CRT television screens, to internet everywhere, full 4K HD screens. Not to mention that a computer used to be expensive and rather clunky, and now we carry a phone in our pocket that's so strong, no one even imagined it possible back then. Whoa

>>9291029

>>
Hi guys and girls, I was wondering if any of you also dealt with the struggles of combining cosplay with your university work. Do you have any tips for me ? thankiess <3
>>
>>9291576
I personally have a strict work schedule this time around for the deadline, but in reality, I like to work without deadlines, whenever i have time, considering I tend to have uni 5 days a week and work on Sundays. Sometimes I work Saturday and Sunday and then there's no time at all. So I use what I can, when I have a project laying around.

But I also like to take mental health days (on days off!) which means I'm going for a hike or sleep in, depending on what I need.
>>
>>9291576
Not a uni student but lower education pleb with part-time work. I work on my costumes in tidbits. A free hour here n there, and I'm good. But I don't expect to get too much work done in a short time this way.

Although pre-event stress works miracles. In the end its all a hobby though, and a hobby takes up as much time as you decide it gets.
>>
>>9291576
Start making your costume(s) early, as in "begin last month for Animecon" early. There's no real telling how much time you will have to spend on your costume so it's better to play it safe and possibly finish early than not finishing it at all. Also manage your time well. Do the bigger more intensive things on free days and keep the smaller things for whenever you have an hour or two to kill. You also want to have materials available at all times because there is nothing more frustrating than having a free weekend and not being able to anything because you didn't order your stuff on time.
And like >>9291578 said, take enough time to unwind. University, work, social life and hobbies all take their toll on you and the last thing you want is to crash and burn.
>>
>>9291605
>You also want to have materials available at all times because there is nothing more frustrating than having a free weekend and not being able to anything because you didn't order your stuff on time.

I just hit this point today. I have to wait for mum to bring her sewing machine to do the undersuit, cloak, skirt and tabbard, and everything else is either ordered but not yet dispatched, or waiting for next paycheck. However, I'm more than half-way through for Animecon so I'm not really that stressed yet. The rough construction is done thanks to the strict planning. But I have 3 days off next week and I can't do much. I might go and get me some electric cables in a local hardware store and start working out the electronics...
>>
>>9291625
>Electronics
Cool, what are you planning to add?
>>
>>9291629
I have a roll of about 5m of green LED's. I also considered smoke for the pauldrons with little vape machines, but I may not be able to do that within the time and budget set. If I have time and money left over, I can install it later.
>>
How's Xmas-con?
>>
>>9291625
What are you making?
>>
>>9291633
>Little vape machines
That would make for some pretty sick light effects if you can the smoke thick enough. On a related note, what will you be using for power? I had the freedom of picking all components and soldering everything myself, so for convenience I went with my powerbank (5V, up to 2A) which should last me between 18 and 20 hours on a full charge.

I've posted WIP pics before but I'll add in a pic of the character, specially for you.

>>9291677
I'm needing at least 12V DC. I've seen a nice powerbank on amazon which can be hooked up rather easily to my LED's. I just need to make sure all is connected properly. What I'm going to need, are those instant-connectors you can take apart yourself without damaging the wires, as it will be n the shoulders, cloak, tabbard and helmet. For the Chakram I'm going to need a separate unit, probably fitted in the handle.

how was the xmas con compo? I heard deathstrike won something... What about the rest? Any interesting costumes?
>>
>>9291744
There were surprisingly nice costumes! I liked most of them, just the Angient zone from Doctor Strange had a bit of an unfortunate bald cap.

Deathstrike cosplay was one of the winners, not number one though. Personally I had a different line-up for the winners, Jon Snow, Barbarian girl, the mother of Meridah, Starlord (dancing one with the mistletoe) and Genji. No specific order, and that is if everything was self made on their costumes.

Anyone here know or ever heard of HoshiSai? Because she seems to be Dutch speaking, and claims to be very first European girl that was selected to become a full-time cosplayer model in Japan. (according to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2Z58MQSzgY) She also has a lot of likes of her fb page.

I don't wanna judge her, but I'm not sure what to think of her either. For starters, I think Yuriko Tiger was already a cosplay model in Japan before her. And a lot of HoshiSai’s shoot pictures are pretty poor in production quality (if I have to be brutally honest), especially compared to people like Yuriko Tiger. It just makes me wonder at what kind of agency she’s working at (the nsfw pictures don’t help either btw).

Everyone who is somewhat knowledgeable of the Dutch and Belgian con scene knows this girl is a major drama whore. She organized her own "con" named Hoshicon on the same day as the Japanse Tuinen meet in Hasselt, got upset when three people (not even exaggerating here) showed up and she couldn't pay the bills and reportedly just sucked the dealers' dicks when faced with this problem.
She disappeared to Japan in order to become a kawaii moemoe pornstar. She just did unsuccessful porn and JAV videos last time I checked.
Everything's in the archives.

Saturday was a bit messed up, they said there where going to ask question about your cosplay and how you made it, ect ect. But they didn't in the end. (I don't know about Sunday and if they made any progress in that?)
>>
I found it quite funny how every Harry potter fan (whom I talked to) where mad that Jason Isaac's where late on the con. But afther the Q&A and photo booth nobody complained..

make a meme of that picture please
>>
Also referring to the pic above, anyone else find it annoying that people claim a character and use it as a cosplay name, such as dutch draco cosplay, jack sparrow etc
>>
>>9293335
Yes, really annoying and weird too! I see it a lot with DC cosplayers.
>>
O just like the dutch catwoman girl dont know what the hype is about that one
>>
>>9293335
I personally think that it can work if you really look like the character, can do their mannerisms perfectly, only cosplay that character, ... People tend to nickname you "that Jack Sparrow dude" or whatever anyway if you do the above.
But of course the people who do that themselves usually turn out to be mental, going "I AM the character!!! you can't cosplay it nyeh only me me me ME". That's what annoys me about it.

> "they're bullying me again dad!!"
>>
>>9293374
wait >>9293322 is a cosplayer? Oops. I thought it was another celebrity I didn't recognise. Haha
>>
>>9293335
Yep... It's so annoying
>>
>>9293385
Lol, yeah that's a Draco cosplayer
>>
>>9293385
yep. Though a lot of people told him to do Draco. He actually did that a few months ago, he's one of those people that looks pretty similar
>>
>>9293397
Reminds me of "Dutch tenth doctor cosplayer" and "Matt eleven"

(Matt eleven is not dutch tho)
>>
>>9293397
Does he also have non derpy Draco pics?
>>
>>9293318

Well, the presenter did ask each contestants something on sunday, but it was usually something along the lines of "are you nervous?!?!!!" and none of the contestants could really be heard cause he held the mic miles away from them.
>>
>>9293429
Same was the the Q/A with Pinkstylist fellow, I couldn't hear any of it
>>
>>9293016
Fuck that bullshit.
>>
>>9293335
Nops. Don't mind. Most of the time people that do that look like the original character.
>>
>>9293397
He didn't remind me of Tom Felton at all actually. But eh.
>>
>>9293016
Crafting, I don't do anything with the holidays so this is the perfect time for me to get a lot of shit done.
>>
>>9293483
Same. I'm just working on and on and on...
>>
Don't cry, craft
>>
>>9293387

>>
>>9293539
