Does more only look good on tall thin people?
I'm average height and have wide hips and relatively big boobs, would I look ridiculous in mori?
Yes.
nothing looks good on tall people

Some distinctive features of mori are long cardigans, shawls, and skirts. If you're not tall and thin, you'll just look frumpy.
>>9214855
You might just look like a bag lady, unfortunately. The only way to know is to try it out. Try keeping the layers in a sort of A-line shape, so most of the volume is at the bottom.

Anything looks good on tall thin people. That's why fashion companies tend to use that for models.
Thin is the keyword. Mori often causes a person to lose their silhouette and literally look like a pile of laundry and it's only very cute on thinner people. Tall people rock it too, but width is the main issue here.

Anon, you can wear whatever the fuck you want. As long as you feel good in the clothes and you feel like they look good on you, who cares if you're not tall and thin.
Although if you're really concerned with having wide hips and big boobs in mori, try defining your waist with a belt or a higher waisted skirt that you can tuck a shirt into. You can still layer things, but maybe try to have something in the outfit that helps highlight your thinest part. That way you can avoid looking like a pile of laundry, as >>9214890 said.
Kind of similar to OP's question - can j-fash and other romantic styles look good on people who don't have cute/girlish/"soft" faces?

underrated post

Your photo is your answer. Defining pieces with different colors and textures prevent outfits from looking like a monochrome lump (pic related, pretty girl but more lumpy look). In your case, I also agree with a defined waist, and in addition, some sort of hair accessory or headwear can be another detail.

I think people just strongly like a 'cute' face more for something like decora or something like Kyari's style and maybe OTT sweet Lolita or fairy kei. Those are noticeable if the face is not cute and girly. Others not so much but I do think soft bangs and cuter makeup styles can often help most jfashion looks a lot.

>tfw tall and thin
>tfw only like lolita fashion

>A-line
It could work if OP is a not-too-chubby top-heavy pear, but an hourglass + A-line sounds like a recipie for disaster, really.
Gonna agree with the other anon who says to emphasise the waist with a belt or something. Also good are figure-hugging stretchy things if OP actually has a body shape and isn't a completely lumpy potato.

I thought mori was for skinny short people that look like little forest people when they wear it lol.

The last height average taken puts Japanese women around 5'2" and of course most are thin, so ya.
Tall people may find brand clothing too short for them.
You can always take the look and tone it down a bit, if you think the drapiness and the layering won't suit you.
After all, this style of clothing has been popular in alternative Japanese culture for a long time before someone put a name to it.
My favourite Japanese singer-songwriter, Ichiko Aoba, dresses in a more minimal version of this style and she's tiiiny. It works for her because she's bohemian, and becauses it fits with the cute and nearly fey music she makes:

Question: Is there a version of mori for boys?
>>9214855
I firmly believe that any body can look good in the right outfit, but there are many styles that don't lend themselves well to certain body types.
It's really just a matter of trial and error until you know what works for your body, which goes for anybody, it's just more difficult the more different you are from the average person.

Cute! Looks like she favors natural style clothing, which is far less layers and bagginess compared to mori.
As for mori boy, there isn't an official version, but there's lots of inspo if you check the archives & http://moriboy.tumblr.com/

how fat are you?
>>9215745
Also fabric weight. The dress she's wearing looks too heavy and crisp for mori. It would be improved by going for layers of softly draped gauze or linen. If you're good at layering you can create an impression of a figure without relying on tailoring.
Is 5'5 with a 91cm bust suitable for mori?

With big hips and big boobs and a headscarf you might end up channeling a babushka aesthetic.

I love ichiko aoba so much anon its nice to see someone else who does too!
Anyways op, like another anon said earlier in the thread using a belt to define your waistline might help a little, but be careful when styling with one I guess? Because with a belt I find its easy for it to turn into that weird tumblr-mori look.
Using belts to define the waist is mentioned quite often here and it's not very common in mori, but I'll post some coords that use them.

Young ladies dressed like old ladies is adorable imo
You gotta do the old lady walk to really sell it

Just make sure to show at least one section of your body that's thin, it will create an illusion that all of the covered parts of your body are also thinner than they appear. Nice legs? Wear shorter dresses and skirts. Nice arms? Don't layer fabrics on them, or even leave them uncovered. DFC? Emphasise it with idk, low neckline or more fitted bodice.
Tried it on myself - I'm kinda chubby and extremely pearshaped. When I cover myself in layers from top to bottom I tend to look riddiculous and twice as fat, but as soon as I uncover my arms or flat chest I start to look allright. It's all about the balance.
Also if you're generally chubby you shouldn't layer too much. Play with accessories rather than fabrics.
