Halloween Costumes can be discussed here right? From hilariously obvious knock offs to "Donna T. Rumpshaker" and other mind boggling ideas for "sexy" costumes, lets talk because Halloween merch is starting to drop and that includes costumes.

Spirt halloween had a sailor moon knockoff wig (but no costume?). They also had some AoT stuff, the swords and the jackets, and DBZ scouters.

I worked at Spirit for 4 weeks, 2 of when they are open. It was awful. Please don't buy costumes from a halloween store, actually go on etsy or somewhere and get something decent. Though, I guess that doesn't need to be said here.

Got paid minimum wage and expected to sell people costumes in the same way a car salesman sells a car. I was fired 2 weeks after they opened since they said I was avoiding customers, even though I engaged literally everyone who walked in the door. Once, as soon as I stepped away from a customer, the manager came up to me and asked me why I wasn't trying to sell them stuff, when I literally just was.... So don't go there unless you want to be harassed to buy stuff.

I also got in trouble the first week they opened since I didn't go into work one day since they never told me my schedule. They were texting us when to come in, then out of no where, posted a schedule on the wall that I was never told about.

Oh, and everyone that worked there, including the managers, they were the type of people who in high school you'd associate as the drug heads.

Never again.

>WHAAAAAAAAAAAA THEY'RE ALL MEANIES WHO FIRED ME FOR NO REASON!

Ngl anon, you sound like an entitled high schooler that got fired for being lazy.
no business fires people for no reason because it's a bitch to hire new people.
In my experience as an associate and a manager, it's actually incredibly difficult to get fired from a retail job, particularly seasonal ones. You pretty much have to be a colossal fuck up.

>it's a bitch to hire new people
Jesus Christ no it's not.
With the job market like it is, you have the pick of the litter ESPECIALLY during seasonal hiring.
Are you just too lazy to actually read the filled out applications or what?
>>
>>9180421
It's not just getting the applications though. You have to interview them, then train them, then there's legal shit to take care of. Unless a person is flat out not doing their job, it's easier to let them stay than find someone new, as far as retail goes.

More on topic, I saw a Sailor Jupiter costume at Value Village, surprisingly actually labeled as Sailor Jupiter. But Sailor Moon was just "fantasy Sailor" or something.

Spirit does. They seriously do. We have someone who works for us who has worked for spirit every year, so around this time he's juggling two jobs. Hes explained that if you don't sell enough costumes they basically get rid of you and replace you with another seasonal. They also do not pay you overtime.
>>
>>9180424
Since spirit is seasonal, you are on probation. They can fire you without reason and workout notice. Nothing illegal takes place.

In the flip side, I worked at target for a year and I gradually started doing less and less work. I would hide behind racks and avoid customers.
I had a coworker who took a nap behind diapers once.

When I quit they still begged me to stay.

Retail fucking sucks. I feel sorry for everyone who still has to deal with it.

>>
>>9180353
I used to work at one of these places, and we had 3 different managers that kept changing the schedule and then wouldn't tell you it had been changed.

I have so many stories about my job lol
>>
>>9180353
>>9180389
In my experience it seems like firing is less the reason why people leave retail and the issue moreover is burnout.
To be fair I've worked for major corporate retailers in the past (clothing, grocery, etc.), and it seems like in addition to managers having really outrageous expectations, the workload and customer interactions kind of snowball into a clusterfuck and it discourages people from wanting to continue the job.

And there truly is no reward for it.
I remember at one grocery job, managers could write up "compliment" coupons if a customer mentioned your name specifically or a manager noticed you went above and beyond for customer service. The idea was you'd enter these coupons into a hanging bag to raffle off $50-250 gift cards, which was a big deal since it was food and homegoods to buy.
The problem was this uppity hag manager (you know the type: bleached blonde hair, wore makeup not suited for her age, flirted w/ customers, always wore heels because that bitch was never on her feet for more than 2 hours at a time). She used to not write me any coupons even when I deserved them because she didn't like my hair and I was younger than her hag self. She would also write herself upwards of 20-30 coupons a month ensuring she would always win the gift cards and pocket them. For good measure she'd always come thru my line to complete her purchases. I should have reported her for that, but at the time I was a teen and had no idea that it isn't the way things should work. She was a fucking fraud. All those hags were bc they worked in retail for the past 15-20 years of their adult lives and the only thing they knew was to cannibalize lower-level employees to keep on top.

I could go on but let's say quitting that job was the best part of my teenage chapter.

>>9185279
Am I wrong for thinking this isn't terrible for a Spirit Halloween knockoff? It looks better than the costumes I've seen on eBay and the skater dresses from Hot Topic.
>>
>>9185283
Not even Spirit Halloween's this is Savers version. Which in my city is the bigger contender for Spirit as most their stock is marked far lower. But yea it's not awful
>>
>>9185286
Wow! I didn't know Savers had their own line of costumes. My store usually just sections off an area for donated costumes and vintage clothing that can be used for costumes.
>>
>>9185041
I'm part of a "theater" company at my uni and their manual literary says that "halloween stores are a good place to look for high quality wigs!". Our budget is tiny and they've either been buying overpriced halloween wigs like the ones in your pictures or extremely expensive human hair wigs for over a decade now...
>>
>>9185347
Yep, they set up around the same time here. But Spirit doesn't get nearly as much foot traffic. And moms are more willing to buy their 12.99 Elsa knock off than Spirit's the only downside is the stock out is all they have. Hell, for a meet up event for Halloween I picked up a few ears and tails at Savers for 2.99. Went to peek into Spirit's same looking quality same very short cat tail for 14.99

Former retail manager here. The place I worked at would rather keep people than let them go, but that was only because they couldn't hire anyone. No one was applying for the longest time because our company's financial stupidity. So it ended up being nothing but high schoolers applying, which the hiring manager just *loved* because she didn't have to run background checks (background checks cost money and take a few days).

But honestly, interviewing is like 5-10 minutes tops. Training them consisted of sitting them down in the back for 3 hours while they used a CD with outdated register training material and then tossing them to their department and letting co-workers train them. As far as legal shit goes, you just typed in some stuff for background checks (for 18+), did the I-9 if they were kids (about what school they went to), and the W-2. Takes like 10-15 minutes and you can do a bunch of people's stuff at once.

In Texas (where I live), no one's job is protected (it's at-will, unless you got into one of like 2 unions in the state). My job, along with countless others, was eliminated. My company only fired for loss prevention reasons and just cut hours to nothing for crap employees, but we weren't the norm. We just cut management jobs out. Now I work at a jewelry store and I'm going back to school cause fuck that shit. The pay was great, but I shouldn't have stayed like I did. It's not worth it.

>>9185647
You sound like a shit manager if you don't do background checks and you only hire high schoolers with limited availability considering most high schoolers are busy 5 days a week except after school and then the weekends. You should be running background checks on everyone. YOu don't know if they have had other jobs before and maybe stole from those stores, or have a history in school or with the county of sexual assault, battery, theft.. etc. I can see why your company went down.

You could also go with the Rpc Studio wich is more on the "expensive" side.

Off topic, but are you confident in your body? A spiderman suit is going to cover up the face your ta seems to like a lot and really accentuate the rest of you, friendo.

I saw someone wearing that Joker coat out and about the other day. It might have been the slightly nicer Hot Topic one, but yeah. Guy was straight up wearing the Joker coat with a steampunk top hat and a cane.

The RPC studio has REALLY good suits, but they're quite expensive especially if you want them to sew it for you. They look awesome though. Don't forget a dance belt.
>>
>>9202441
Is RPC the best ones to go on? I've got the extra income and been planning to do a Spiderman cosplay for a while.
>>
>>9202883
I think all of the Spider-man cosplayers I follow have RPC suits. You should look into yourself if that's what you want though.

I stopped by Spirit and noticed their orange two-piece suits were on clearance; I was sorely tempted to buy one and go as Kraft Punk for Halloween.

I just checked out my local Spirit Halloween and I was actually digging the Captain America and BB-8 halter dresses and would totally wear them as everyday clothes. Seems like Spirit has stepped up their game in the past few years, what with the rise of nerd culture and all the slightly less shitty licensed costumes that spring from that. I fully acknowledge my shit taste.

Also, the knockoff Gomez Addams costume being called "creepy husband" made my day.
