It depends on what color scheme your going with and what kind of look you want to achieve. I like to contour with darks but I go with gothic/dark shironuri.

I think as long as you do something bold with the eye and lip a light contour is all you need.

We haven't had much discussion on actual products used to create shironuri, but in my experience, I really dislike Mehron clown white. It's sticky and thick and hard to apply with a sponge.
I really like Mitsuyoshi greasepaint, it feels mousse-like, but the containers are tiny and getting it in the US is a hassle.

Anyone have shironuri pet peeves? Here are some of mine
>white paint is too translucent, making the wearer just look pale instead of white faced
>water paint instead of grease paint (looks streaky)
>people thinking it must be nature-y and floaty like minori
>too many peignoirs
>visible hairlines/no wig
>unstyled wigs/shiny/cheap wigs
>no setting powder
>uneven makeup base
>FACIAL HAIR (men please shave it, it looks weird and gross when you try to paint over/around it)

>people who draw on new eyebrows but don't do a good job covering up the old ones

I don't even paint all the way down my neck half the time, lel.

I guess it's because I cosplay bodypaint and when I do shironuri I'm not going to pretend I can convince anyone that's my actual skin. It's literally called whiteface, as in acknowledging it's a style of make up. There's really no rules aside from that, and as long as not painting arms etc. is a conscious choice I really don't mind it.

Real hair doesn't bother me as long as it's thought through and intended as part of the look.

I want to see more simplistic coords, though! I've seen some seifuku without all that much in way of accessories and I really like it. The "headdress and fifteen accessories is obligatory" thing is kinda dull to me.

When do you gulls wear Shironuri? When did you wear it last?

Fallout is a terrible problem for me with my looks, suggestions for how to best save my make up/avoid it alltogether?

Hey anon, I live in Savannah, GA and I did it last year for Halloween, and I did the wig and gloves and everything. and loved it so much that I'm doing it again this year. It was sweaty but definitely worth it. Going out at night definitely helps too, as after the sun sets here it's not so bad. I just carried a large bag and kept my makeup touch up kit and deodorant in it

Does anyone know how Minori dyes her false eyelashes? In the video tutorial she did with Tokyo Fashion she mentioned the eyelashes she was using were originally white but she dyed them green. I'd love to do that for a custom color, and I was thinking synthetic fabric dye, but I'm worried about the heat melting the glue and causing the lashes to fall apart or melting the fibers together

Loose white powder and big fluffy brush... Start by just tapping it onto my skin, then swirl the brush around to buff it in and brush excess powder off. Can cause some creasing if you don't brush off enough, but I find that's a problem with most cream/grease based paint regardless.

On the topic of eyelashes, how do you all choose them for your coords? I like minori's way of color coordinating it with her wig or clothes.
What I usually do is order a bunch of cheap lashes from taobao/Ali/whatever and splice them together until I get some I like
Also looking for opinions on the strongest lash glue... I've been using Revlon for a while but am wondering if there's anything stronger since my top lashes are usually very heavy

I have a few different pressed shadows, mainly I use a coastal scents original 88 which I got for cosplay. It's nice as it has all the shades I need, and even if the pigment payoff isn't amazing it's buildable enough that it's not a problem.

Though I've fallout with all my shadows.

I'm not sure if you can use a primer, because you'd have to put it over your base makeup for it to work and it could ruin the base texture. You could try using creme based colors

Okay maybe I'm just an idiot, but I'm having a lot of trouble applying eyeshadow and other makeup over the shironuri base. Like it just keeps sticking to the base and making it hard to apply evenly. I'm using Mehron clown white and Mitsuyoshi 2-way cake, but I have Mitsuyoshi greasepaint in the mail and will use that on Halloween itself.

Do most people really use greasepaint? I always assumed they used makeup similar to geisha, but I wasn't sure. I use Kryolan makeup, instead of greasepaint because it's hard to apply and take off. I use a brush or sponge to apply to a clean face that's been moisturized. Make sure your sponge/brush isn't too wet. Then I use a sponge to stipple the makeup on to a smooth consistency. I use a translucent powder or white powder to make it look super smooth. It's super humid where I live so I only wear it late at night and use oil blotting sheets to help my skin out.

It definitely can. I was so-so at first, but I had a job which required water based makeup so I got really good at applying it and wearing it for long periods of time. Plus, I don't worry about my skin breaking out.

I had another job that required white airbrush makeup and it kind of sucked. It looked good from far away.

If you're practicing face painting would it be better to start with something cheap and then using the good stuff when going out, or is it better to just stick with the good product for the final costume?

I'm just curious since it's close to Halloween so spirit and other stores have been stocking creams and greasepaint.

I recommend working with the good stuff. If you start with cheap makeup you'll get frustrated that it's too hard to apply and blend. It will also stain your skin or be difficult to remove. If you start with high quality materials it will be easier for you to practice and improve. Your skin will also thank you.

How do you all keep from overheating in shironuri? Where I live it's usually warm, humid, or even hot on Halloween. Last year I stuck to a light cotton dress without a petticoat (it wasn't lolita) and minimal stuff on top of my wig.
This year I might of fucked myself over by wearing a heavier fabric and more layers so I was thinking:

I use two fingers to drag a thin layer of white onto my skin, let it sit for a bit and then use a sponge to dab on a second layer. But you will still experience some creasing/thickness.

Sure. I use setting spray to prime, keeps things from getting too oily, but I've been looking into getting a proper primer.

Ben Nye's, got it with my paint as part of a set. I think it's technically a barrier spray and not a sealing spray? IME it makes my skin 1) less absorbent 2) slightly smoother and 3) better at staying consistent in oil throughout the day.

I use it. I use Nyx's pore filler on most of my face, but their shine killer on my forehead. It helps absorb some of the oil before it can mess up my makeup and also makes it look smoother than if I applied it without primer.

Doesn't a barrier spray go on your skin before make-up (to keep the grease-paints and shit from getting into your pores and make it easier to remove)? And a setting spray goes on at the end of your make-up, or between layers, to prevent smudging and keep it in place?

I found out that the pharmacy I go to sells the monistat anti-chafing powder gel so I bought a tube to use under my paint while practicing putting it on. The ingredients are nearly identical to makeup primer and the cost is less in comparison.

if you don't press your lips together or use one of those transfer proof liquid lipsticks that are popular now, you could try a different color on the top and bottom lip
