You can get some decent cute heels at target that would work better then what she has. Colored tights are cheap as well. A petti that holds a moderately decent amount of poof is like 30 dollars on Amazon shipped and hair you can get a red sun hat or even a straw hat for like 5 dollars at Walmart. I actually don't even use my Lolita made blouses. I prefer my chiffon ones I have found at thrift stores. H&M has nice blouses that work very well with classic and gothic that I have no need for Lolita made blouses. Plus I can use them for the office and get ultimate use.

If she's bought something from bodyline, then she can buy more of the other things. The bodyline resale prices are really cheap. So you can get them for almost nothing. But she seems like one of those " I don't need a petti to be Lolita" girls so she's a lost cause.

I have never been above the poverty line in my life, but I know you can get a straw hat from Poundland, paper flowers from party shops, accessories from Primark/F21, nice blouses from thrift shops etc I borrow offbrand boleros from my mother, sometimes her shoes. Shoes are the only thing you should really pay a bit more for (around $30) so they don't fall apart or destroy your feet. The last coord I posted cost $45 for everything: shoes, tights, headdress, op and, petticoat.

Eh, I nearly always look cheap, but passable. I tend to have a nice indie/brand main piece or pick the better Bodyline dresses but the blouses/accessories are offbrand and usually get compliments.

My ultimate cheapass coord is in the last thread. I've posted in the offbrand thread already.

I'm not saying I'm some spectacular lolita, but I'm saying she could have gotten a cheap petticoat on eBay (I got one for $6 from a bridesmaid) or found a shirt/blouse with a peter pan collar/puffed sleeves somewhere rather than a plain white t shirt. I'm speaking as someone who doesn't always have loads of cash to play with, but sometimes you have to get creative. Unless you have really nice quality offbrand shoes for gothic/classic or cute sneakers to wear with more fairy-kei inspired sweet, you kind of have to bite the bullet and buy lolita specific shoes. Wanted to throw something togeather since I already had my photoshop open, ended up spending too much time on this.
First (row 1) - Try not to comb or tease your ponytails, at all. Do it when you finish washing your hair, put it into ponytails and don't touch it once it's dry. You'll probably end up with neater tails, like the picture in row 1. The only thing you'll need to touch up is the bangs.
Option 2 - Leave it as it is. Again, don't comb it, keep it in simpler, tidy curls, only take care of your bangs. That's row 2.
Row 3 - Tie those tails lower. Like almost at your neck (added a drawing since I couldn't find a photo that'll show what I mean)
4 - Have you tried braids? Your hair seems short, but like every curly hair, there's length in it. Use it by braiding your hair when it's wet.
5 - Cute little tidy buns. Both easy and nice looking.

I would also recommend trying different makeup.

I already do something rather similar as my haircare 'routine', and I generally only tease my hair when parts of it aren't curly (for some reason parts of it are very curly while other parts dry straightish), which makes the pigtails look very odd.

I still think the read accents cheapens the look. Accessories are too simple and too not-lolita so they don't fit to the style of the dress and therefor it clashes. The dress is fancy and elegant and I'm mostly speaking about the necklace and bag. Socks are wrong color. The emblem is neatly done but the red is very bright and do not appear in anywhere else in the dress so it kinda cheapens it. Could benefit from detailing in the emblem and different red even if it wouldn't be 100% accurate - this is lolita afterall. Shoes and headdres cheapen the look even more. The headdress is weird because I can't see what it really is and the starclip is not tied in. The coord just lacks the detailing and the lolita feel. It just feels like a costume because of that. It just not pleasant to look at, especially the dress is looking so off in this.

This! It's a perfect example of a bad fandom coord. The accessories don't need to be so in your face, it cheapens the whole look, which is the most common mistake when people make fandom coords. It's much better to opt for subtle nods to what you're referencing and value elegance over instant recognition. That will make it look like fashion rather than costume.

Agreed. I feel like she just grabbed her most garish red shit and threw it together. The socks are awful, my eyes immediatly were drawn to them. There's a time and place for a printed sock like that and it's not here (not to mention they are typically an ita staple.) The dress is very fancy and airy, some type of nice printed tights with a subdued design would have been nice. The crown is random and once again clashes with the overall feel of her main peice. She could have incorporated feathers in a regal looking headdress without it being a straight velvet kings crown. The wings are cheap and look like poster board. It's like she took random elements of other ott coords and threw them together where they obviously don't belong. The emblem is more than enough representation on the dress for it to be fandom related. To keep it lolita she could have gone the "pheonix" route and focused on a coord based around that feel, it would have looked very nice. This is a shitty fandom costume. For someone who apparently ONLY dresses ott (as she claims) she sure is bad at it. Gold would have been a nice third accent color if done right. Add a bit if gold to the emblem, in your bracelet, swap the shitty pokeball necklace with a gold necklace and maybe gold accents in the tights or shoes. There were just a lot of really great and obvious possibilities and she cranks this out? She clearly has no general feel for the fashion.
