First time poster, long time lurker. I'm new to larme and have only posted in the UK fb group (though I'm a member of both) and didn't get much feedback - I only have offbrand items which probably doesn't help. If I share co-ords here can I get real concrit and feedback? I don't mind if it's "mean", I'd rather it be said to me directly than quietly thought about me, as I fear might be the case on fb!

Really been enjoying this style and these threads, so thanks to everyone who's posted so far.
>>
>>9155521
Yeah, go ahead and post! I love seeing offbrand larme coordinates.
>>
I post real critique these days. I don't like sugar coating but it seems some people are too sensitive in the Facebook group for starters. The larme kei style discussion post and the stuffed toy bag one haha

>>

I don't think anyone got sensitive in those threads. Most of the comments were on topic and contributed to the conversation.

If you want sensitive little snowflakes, go to Rufflechat. Thus far the FB group is really good, and let's hope it stays that way.

I picked up this top from there the other day, really happy with it. I tied the lacing slightly differently though.
>>
>>9156712
I've considered buying this top and replacing the lacing with organza ribbon, but I'm not sure about the neckline... I don't think it'll suit me. Could you post worn pictures, anon?
>>
>>9156712
They have some really cute things in lately, H&M are one of the best high street stores in my opinion.

That's really cute how much was it?
>>
>>9156732
I think having an OTT girly necklace would go well with organza ribbons! You could introduce some pastels into the coord this way too

I knew I was forgetting to add something! I'll put it in the next op, I promise.

Does anyone have any experience buying from the used section of zozotown? What's the condition of the items usually like? I know there are rankings but those things sometimes vary from shop to shop.

This is so funny to me.

Ive been into larme for about a year, but I'm interested in what the community was like back in the beginning. Is there anyone who blogged about larme back in 2012? When did the fb group really take off? When did the fashion take off ? Any resources would be appreciated!

Since they got bought out by Cross a few years ago the quality has reaaaally gone down (remember all the cute AMO collabs that weren't of tissue paper polyester and transparent satin) and the prices up

There was no community back in 2013 at least. Back then it was just a magazine my sis and I bought at least.. The whole shops and people playing in on the style came up around.. 2014 maybe? My memory is a bit bad. The fb group wasn't there until very recently.
>>
>>9162191
For a second I thought that the thumbnail was a picture of punpun lol
>>
>>9163124
I believe the magazine came out in 2012. This time last year there was a lot of posting of people trying to find out what the style was called and it started to get boosted on Tumblr (the pom-pom days). The Facebook group started sometime this year or in 2015.
>>
I wish that people would take their coordinate photos with better lighting or even a better quality camera.
>>
>>9163754
I think the "retard girl" dress is also mean to be an exact replica of one of the dresses Courtney Love wore. A blog post talked about it but I forget which one. Does anyone know?

Oh she's already done that, she made a really bad "larme" makeup tutorial a few months ago. Honestly I'm surprised she hadn't posted anything in the group until now.

iirc Facebook algorithms work by showing a sample group an update and if they interact with it FB will show it to more members, if they don't they won't. So if there's a bunch of members who don't care about the group anymore and who don't interact then less members will end up being shown.

Personally I think the styles' inspirations and aesthetics are too different for them to jive together, but it's up to you if you wanna try.

I think we've talked about this before but a lot of anons seemed to agree that many of the looks in the magazine wouldn't immediately read as 'larme' on a western girl so people tend to gravitate towards specific examples of the style. >many of the looks in the magazine wouldn't immediately read as 'larme' on a western girl
Is there any reason for that? I don't disagree, I just find it curious. Like, does that mean larme isn't really all that different from twee/nymphet-inspired/babydoll/generic "classy" fashion, except that it's Japanese girls wearing it?

>>9182597
It does overlap, yes. With less obviously 'larme' pieces it's all in the details, in my opinion. Western items/outfits have completely different detailing and aren't styled the same way a larme outfit would be. In current mainstream fashion everything you're wearing is supposed to look like you just picked it up from your bedroom floor this morning and 'just so' happened to match. Pic related or >>9182593 are quite good examples because you could probably find some of the individual items in a Western shop but they definitely wouldn't be coordinated this way as the styling is much more feminine. If you were to see #7 from the Bardot spread in a mainstream magazine the hair would be unstyled, you'd have the model wear something like an athleisure bomber on top to 'toughen it up', the socks and probably the shoes as well would have to go.
I might not have phrased this very well but I hope you can see what I'm getting at anon

Thanks anon. The top in the last pic I posted is actually pink but it doesn't really show. I have a couple of red coords I'll post as well. Yeah, I tend to go for a more chunky shoe, it's just not practical where I live to be walking around in anything else really. They do all have a velvet texture though, which I feel softens the chunkyness a little.

How about a side-pony like pic? That way only one side is covered by hair and you can still see the lovely detailing on the other strap.

Any advice on how to get curls like this? I don't know if my hair's just too long or too thick to hold this kind of curl, or if it's the technique, or what.
>>
>>9182999
I would probably curl my hair with a curling iron and then gently brush it out to create looser and less structured/polished curls. With my hair texture and the climate where I live, that "loose" look would only last for a few hours before it fell out though.

Question, how larme-y can monochrome cords be? I want to get into larme because it is my aesthetic but I despise pastel colors.
>>
>>9183836
Anon, I'm sad that something or someone has led you to believe that larme has to involve pastels. To be fair, bright colors can look out of place but monochrome outfits are pretty easy, try grabbing a white top and a black skirt from mon lily or ehyphen bonbon and bam, you probably have a larme-looking outfit. If you substitute a light pink for white, cream or grey in many outfits they will usually still look larme.

This anon's floordinates >>9181636 and her ones from past threads are good examples, would you like me to dump some?
>>
>>9183842
It's kind of funny bc I've seen other people practically preach that all pastel cannot be larme kei lol.
>>9183836
Almost every (if not every) issue of the magazine will have a TON of non pastel outfits. Definitely try to find some scans! They're a great resource for the genre guidelines.
>>
>>9183842

Definitely agree about the shoes. I did a version with Oxford pumps as well, pic related, but I like the idea of plain pumps better. I really need to invest in some tstrap black pumps or something.
The top is actually a jesus diamante bolero and it's pretty nice quality, probably the nicest thing in the picture lol. It's probably the crappy lighting making it look bad. Point taken though!
>>
>>9184334
Honestly I still don't think anything in this outfit works for Larme.
>>
>>9184345
No yeah I understand, I just wanted to defend the quality of my bolero haha. It's difficult for me to create an outfit that isn't stereotypical but still reads as larme
>>
>>9184359
Do you own any of the issues? That might give ou some good inspiration since there's tons of stuff that people don't usually scan because it's too normal looking. I don't know if that's what you're going for.
>>
>>9184334
You might want to think about changing the shoes and accessories anon
The detailing on those oxfords (?) just looks off and the jewellery is kind of generic looking
>>
Not trying to be offensive but am i the only one who think Larme is kinda boring? Less boring than genderless kei and that minimalist trend but still. I like the "softness" of it and the vintage/cute but mature feel and found about two coordinates i like but that's all.
I feel like Japanese street fashion is taking a boring turn it's less crazy and colorful than before
>>
>>9184598
It's not a street fashion, so that may be why. It may be a little alternative, but it has more in common with mainstream fashion than it does with street fashion. That's part of why I personally like it, I find it very wearable and trendy. But it wasn't born on the streets so it's no surprise that it's not as crazy or wild as some other fashions.

I would definitely agree that Japanese fashion has become more subdued lately through by Larme is really in different category.
>>
>>9184598
Also just saying you're probably not gonna find many people who think it's boring in a thread dedicated to Larme... The people who don't like Larme really fizzled out after the first few thread discussions about the style.

Not that you're doing anything wrong, it's just kind of funny. Like going into a Lolita thread and saying the same thing about Lolita.
>>
>>9184598
Hmm, I think it would seem less boring if more people did unconventional things with it, rather than copycatting Risa, using the same black/pink/white colors,etc...but as anons up above have discussed, it's more likely non-Japanese girls would get told they aren't Larme that way. Which is quite silly, but ah well.

I do like that it's less crazy for days when lolita just isn't practical.
>>
>>9184658
I find this argument kind of weird. Larme is based on trends. Pink and black is in. Lingerie is in. Yes there are other colors, but the most dominate colors in the latest magazine are still pink and black. The brands are literally shitting out this stuff. There are exceptions, especially as we move into fall where some darker colors like red or grey are starting to gain traction again, but these are the dominant trends.

I think there's a big problem with people approaching Larme like a Japanese street fashion when they should be approaching in more like mainstream fashion.

I'm all for more innovation, but I'm looking more for what pieces people pick and how they put their outfits together, not just what colors they chose. Otherwise you might as well rip out more than half the pages out of the latest issues because it's all "too Risa."

Or maybe anon will get their wish and we'll suddenly see a bunch of girls in horrendous leopard prints next to all the pink and black girls. I love this new trend but I'm not looking forward to the Western interpretation.
>>
>>9184389
Yeah, I do. I need to actually look through them instead of just displaying them lol. I'm not necessarily looking for a "normal" look, but rather something a little less cookie cutter. Idk

>>9184444
Yeah I definitely agree. Im a little limited on larme accessories so I tend to just use the same few over and over.

>>9184672
That's a good point. You cant really get too innovative in larme because it's based around incorpoating already existing trends into girly outfits, rather than experimenting and creating your own trends. If you get too innovative it kind of loses the point of larme.

On a similar topic, I'm really happy about how larme trends seem to be slowly coming to western fashion.
>>
>>9184693
>You cant really get too innovative in larme because it's based around incorpoating already existing trends into girly outfits, rather than experimenting and creating your own trends.

I mean I wasn't trying to say that innovation can't happen or that people can't try something new, but at the same time I don't think it's fare to knock those outfits that are just following the prevailing trends. Most Japanese girls are doing it too--it's why the brands are selling so much of a certain thing I.e. Pink and black. Not only that, they are selling out of these colorways quickly. Lingerie based items are also quick sellers.

I do think it's possible to incorporate things not normally seen in Larme into outfits, so there can be some innovation, but I honestly don't think most foreign girls are good enough to really pull that off well. I'm nowhere near that point. And certainly none of them have the influential power of Risa, where if she wears something it almost immediately gets copied by a million girls and then brands and then makes its way into Larme.

It's a fine line since Larme really is about being "on trend." I think that's the problem that a lot of girls coming from Lolita have with transitioning to Larme. They're used to "staples" and "rules". You have the basic things that make up a lolita outfit and then everything else is extra. So they come into Larme, get some pastel clothes covered in pom poms and think they have the basics covered, not realizing they look either dated or completely off point. Larme is hard to grasp of you don't have a good feel for mainstream fashion in general. There is some truth to the joke that Lolitas don't know how to dress outside lolita.
>>
I've noticed that my biggest problem is my hair. I have just over the shoulder long, thin and very fine hair, and most tutorials are for Asian hair. I love larme hairstyles but trying them out on me just never looks good because my hair is just too thin

Any tip on what I can do?
>>
>>9184868
I have similar hair. I find that wearing it in braids/buns for an entire day before I want to style it for larme gives it some more volume and thus holds styles better, bonus points if its slightly dirty.
>>
>>9184784
Yes, thank you. That last paragraph there hit the nail right on the head for me. I share your exact sentiments.
>>
>>9184334
I actually like the top, hair pin, and earrings. I'm not a fan of the skirt because I feel like floral and hearts and bows and lace and pearls in one is a bit too much and larme tends to be understated...it also doesn't look like the pinks go together that well, but that could just be the flash! Personally I'd put the top with the barrette and some black culottes maybe..?

Thanks, I'm glad I wasn't totally off base in my thinking. I also don't want anyone coming from Lolita to think they can't dress in Larme, but you do have to change your mindset quite a bit.

Lolita seems to me to be about collecting while Larme is more about being up to date. Obviously there are trends in lolita, and there are old Larme items that people would pay good money to get, but in general I think that's the big difference between the two.

>>
>>9183754
This is okay, though I think black stocking socks would work better, they'd give some contrast to the shoes.

>>9183763
You've posted a coord with this skirt before, and I'll repeat what I said then. It doesn't work for larme in any way. The colours are too bright, the pattern itself is too busy, and doesn't evoke any of the imagery from larme. I just don't think it will work in any larme outfit, regardless of how it's styled.

Also don't think the top is appropriate for larme, it's too girlishly girly. Very classically gyaru. The pussybow and lace and babypink and satin texture is just too much for one garment in a fashion that's more understated and mature.

>>9183784
I like the idea here, but again it's just too childishly girly. The shoes and skirt are fantastic pieces though and I think they'd look really nice with plain black stocking socks again.

I'm not sure what to recommend instead of the top because I'm not sure where the skirt sits and how long it is.

I don't think every larme outfit has to have black in it, but I think when you're a beginner it makes things much much easier. It seems like you're kind of trying to hard to be different with your outfits here, without really having a solid grasps of the "Basics"

Like you said she really needs to get the basics down but at this point I just think her sense of style is poor.
>>
>>9186912
Thanks for concrit! It is not actually the same skirt, it's a longer dress with deeper colors. I just really like florals but I guess I need to practice more discretion about them in larme. I was unsure about the top so all feedback considered I know to save it for lolita/nonlarme outfits. I agree about basics and I think I'm going to dial it back and focus on more simple outfits.
>>
>>9186984
Yeah she really doesn't know how to dress for her body type. The peplum makes her look wider than she actually is and the skirt makes her look stumpy. The skirt is horrible in general needs to go and socks are bad too.

The problem with this is, replace Risa with any average looking Japanese girl that will inevitably be larger than her, this will become an ugly ass outfit with godawful floral maxi skirt.

For Larme, imo it's in fact unwearable to a degree. Different to the omg-are-you-in-a-play-why-so-puffy-why-so-pink kind of unwearable. Like an anon said in old threads, the magazine created a very dreamy, beautiful look based on a few certain aesthetics, but at issue 24 I still don't think the fashion translates well in real life for anyone who doesn't look like a tiny skinny magazine model. Without these pretty models who fit the aesthetics and have certainly became a huge part of it, the coordinates can be called many different names.

It's almost like a cosplay where majority of us are just nowhere near how perfect the original character is. Before someone shouts IT'S A FASHION IT'S ALL ABOUT FUN! take a look at the people having fun in FB group and what cgl had to say about them. /rant

I agree with you to a point. What we need to do is not look at magazines as something we need to emulate to an exact T. The magazines are just coordination inspiration and to show us the newest releases of the brand, and that's it.

The real issue is larme is so borderline normie with few set in stone rules that it's going to be hard to create a concrete fashion community around it. Gyaru was stricter with its heavy emphasis on hair and makeup and nails. Larme is more of an outfit theme than a solid fashion. Most of the outfits in this thread praised as great larme would be trashed if worn by an average sized white or asian girl.

I think Larme is very wearable, but you'll never look like you stepped out the pages of larme magazine.
>>
>>9188062
If your not around Risa's weight you're unhealthy desu. And most Japanese girls might be slightly larger than her but they're still pretty skinny for the most part. Japan doesn't tolerate fatties.

You should check out the "Larme" tag on fril or Japanese mercari though. There's a whole lot of shit that Japanese girls are trying to sell you as Larme.

Have you even looked inside an issue of larme? There are plenty of average 'everyday' looks that are flattering and that can pass as cute casual wear, and some dressier looks that would be smart casual or semi-formal appropriate. Changing hair and makeup also changes the tone of the outfit.

This is my body type and I am the whitest white bread. At least I'm not super short so it balances out a little, but I really wish I could slim just my legs down and keep everything else the same. It's unflattering.

An byway I'm tired of posting pictures but from looking through brand tags on wear:

- pink and black reigns supreme. If you think the fb comm has it bad then you are in for a shock.
- most girls are skinny to fit into the brand. There is no "Larme kei" tag to lookup for offbrand coordinates, although on wear girls can list their favorite mag and you can maybe look them up that way.
- there is a lot of meh coords that I don't feel like posting. Then some shit and then some good.

So other than the prevalence of brand, which may just be due to how I searched, types of coords aren't too dissimilar to the fb comm. there is a smaller range of body types however.
>>
>>9188190
That's because Japan has a smaller range of body types.

>>
>>9188192

>>
>>9188195
>if you're a bit bigger than Risa you're an unhealthy fattychan
I literally didn't say that.
>>
>>9188192
Yes. And I did know that going in. But it's not like chubbier or uglier girls don't exist in Japan. I just wonder if they're less likely to post themselves online, or less likely to be involved in a fashion that emphasizes model thinness. The tumblr model is more "do it anyway even if you look bad!"
>>
>>9188202
I'd bet they're less likely to post or dress in fashion that suits think people. Japan shames fatties and chubbies a lot more than the West. Deviating from the norm in general is pretty discouraged.
>>
>>9188062
Risa's body type isn't that unachievable for a Japanese girl. It's really skinny yes but there are tons of girls as skinny as her.

And there have been plenty of outfits from the fb group that have been praised. The stuff that got consistently bad concrit was shit. Be real here, there is some true crap on that group. But there are also nice coords as well. I think it's actually been getting better dressed as a whole lately, even if everyone's coords are pretty similar.

>>9188087
Which ones do you feel would be trashed on a white girl? Genuinely curious. Are you talking about the more "normie" outfits that end up in Larme like things with jeans and tee, etc? I can see that to a degree, but I also think most western girls aren't quite to the same level in terms of hair in makeup either, so their normie outfit with their version of "Larme makeup" just looks, well, normal.
>>
>>9188215
Yeah, I wouldn't call Risa average but her body type isn't really unusual.
>>
>>9188215
to me, risa seems a lot thinner than japanese models were a couple years ago. the big models like tsubasa and misako didn't seem as thin back then as risa is now. maybe it's just how risa looks and poses that emphasizes her thinness

>>9188215
>Which ones do you feel would be trashed on a white girl?

not straight up trashed, but if a white girl wore these outfits i don't think she'd be received very favorably.
>>9188186
>>9188168
>>9188139
>>9187225
>>9182593

and i think on a white girl, larme makeup isn't going to look very ~larme unless it is OTT with the eye blush. larme makeup is pretty minimal and a lot of it relies on the intense lenses + red or pink lip tint look.
>>
>>9188239
But why exactly doesn't Larme makeup work well on non Asians? Any specific reason? Seems like utter BS.

Larme definitely has wearable looks, it's one of the most wearable Jfashions out there. However, most western girls never leave the cookie-cutter mold of pink/black and lingerie because often if they do, they get a bunch of uncessary hate and people telling them it's not Larme because of whatever minuscule reason.

I'm not the first to say this, it's been said in previous threads, but still nothing changes. The fb group would be a lot more creative if people weren't terrified of being ripped apart on here.
>>
>>9188426
this was a good tutorial for larme style makeup on western eyes, but i think it would be considered too OTT for modern larme.

it's not that larme makeup doesn't work on non-asians, it's just that on non asians it isn't going to look immediately "larme", it's just going to look like a generic soft makeup look.
>>
>>9188452
It looks like generic soft makeup in Japan too, it just seems special to us because most of us aren't surrounded by Asian faces every day so they seem more special in general.

it's an old, old tutorial. it's three, almost four years old, and back then it was very much on point. i remember her being posted a lot as an example of a white girl who made japanese trends work for her.

>>9188458
this is what i'm trying to convey. we only see it as super special larme makeup because its featured in larme magazine, but it really isn't a rigid makeup style like gyaru was. it's just very soft with an occasional bold lip

I'm in the opposite camp. I don't understand why she gets shit on so much just because she has the disposable income to buy a lot of brand. It's like the people who get mad at Lolitas with huge brand wardrobes. Get over yourselves.

I do agree with the the comments that sometimes she doesn't wear the most flattering pieces, but she still has a better grasp of the Larme style than most western girls. The comments she gets about her body not "fitting" Larme are stupid.
>>
>>9188671
This isn't Sara Mari, it's another older makeup look from hack ok squid. And I just posted the image just because, not as an example of special makeup.

>>9188735
Sara just doesn't have your standard white ~kawaii face. her features are very angular and as such, she gets a lot of hate from people who just don't like her face and how it fits the fashion. It makes no sense, because she's a perfect example of larme- she's up to date on trends, lost a ton of weight to fit into the fashion, and coordinates well,

She reminds me of Faunkegin from the lj Lolita days. She was a good Lolita, but everyone disliked her face so she got a ton of hate online.
>>
>>9188735

Not shitting on her just saying I find her tacky? She rushes to buy all the latest pieces and they end up looking like shit on her. Kudos for her losing weight but I laughed when someone compared her to Dakota Rose. Koots is average as fuck but come on.
>>
>>9188883
>Not shitting on her
>they end up looking like shit on her.

>>
>>9188883
I wasn't necessarily addressing that part to you specifically but this has been brought up in multiple times in past threads here and even to her face.

>>
>>9188967

I remember people spoke about her on Lolcow too
>>
>>9189041
But why though? Regardless of if you think she suits Larme or not, has she ever done anything bad?

Seems to be mostly vendetta and jealousy.
>>
>>9189041
And I said, quote, "I wasn't necessarily addressing that part to you specifically"

I'm aware that more than one person has a stick up their ass about saramari. It's still getting tired.

Like >>9189064 I really just don't get it. At least with people like Chieko I can understand some of the ire based on her actions, but with saramari it's all "she has too much burando and she uggo."
>>
>>9188883
so are you saying its less tacky to wait to buy pieces because then they are less likely to look like shit on someone?
what?
>>
>>9189100
Nah anon just means they look like shit on her regardless, which I disagree with mind you. I also don't get how it's tacky to buy the newest releases right away. With the way some brands sell out that's the only way you can get some things.

Or is it that it's just tacky to buy lots of brand? I do remember an anon from a past thread calling brand only outfits "easy mode".

Trust me, it is jealousy, a hundred percent. SaraMari has been posting Larme style outfits (before the term was even in common circulation) for years, and I guarantee you alot of her naysayers only found out about it during the last year and think they are now experts apparently; it's pure jelly. If I had the money I too would throw money at brand and buy the latest brand as soon as it dropped whenever possible. Anyone who says they wouldn't or disagrees is lieing and/or does not love Japanese fashion and in which case should not even be here.
>>
>>9189141
>brand only outfits "easy mode"
I love how this line or reasoning goes along with "and so many people still fuck it up" as if to say everyone is retarded.

where to find a nice skirt like this?

(like the metallic one you posted, or maybe a black one)
>>
>>9190460
Just like a tea length pleated skirt? I've spotted a couple dozen at my local thrift store, especially in black. I think I'd have a harder time looking for a thrift store that doesn't have a black pleated tea length skirt than one that does.

Other than that, Bubbles has got this:
http://shop.bubbles-sawthecity.com/products/detail.php?product_id=2165

And Bonbon's got this:
http://stripe-club.com/ap/item/i/A1CC00002B1T

It's unfortunate because a lot of brands had a lot more of them in just these past couple months, but most of them have sold out. I'm fairly certain either Merry Jenny or Honey mi Honey had one in metallic, but I just can't find it, so I'm assuming it's sold.

What I really want though is the heart and arrow hairpin by Monlily....

It's from the movie. In the book the necklace is a gold chain with the words My Sweetheart

I love Harry Potter and I didn't even recognize it. Don't worry about it.

It's a bit hard to say since a lot changes with the trends and seasons, but I'll give it a go:
-Sheer black tights
-A black choker necklace
-A simple, well-fitting pencil skirt (I.e. Not bodycon)
-A long tulle skirt
-Something with a Peter Pan collar. A black dress is a good choice.
-A collection of satin and tulle ribbons for your hair
-A sheer, Lacey blouse
-A really fluffy sweater, preferably in a pale color
-An oversized top or sweater or whatever, as long as it looks good tucked into a skirt
-A comfey pair of black shoes that match everything

She's from the facebook group, right? I'm not in the group, does she get given concrit or just praised/ignored?

Would this dress work for Larme? Or is there too much lace?

IMO I think it could work for a preppy look but you definitely shouldn't pose like in the photo (by showing off the skirt which makes it read much more cutesy) and it certainly needs clearly larme kei type hair and make up to compensate for not non "obvious" larme aspects of the silhouette. A less fussy looking bow at the collar might help as well as the correct leg wear and shoes.

Thanks anon! So, would clunky black sandals with black lace socks, big pearl earrings, black velour head bow, and maybe a choker work?

Something like this maybe? I'd go a bit more simple with accessories around your head area though; you list earrings, a headbow, and a choker, but I'd suggest doing only one or two of those. It's a high necked dress, so the choker would be the first one I'd skip.

You're right about it being too many accessories. Looking at these pictures, I'd probably just do earrings and make sure my hair was well styled.
