So my friend and I went to the Funimation Peep Show before reading the description thinking it was burlesque which is always funny in how awkward it is. But instead it was just soft core porn advertisement.
Which, you know, is more lame but the crowd was worse than I could have ever asked for at burlesque.

I love Otakon and everything but honedtly its not worth the proce. Also the humidity in DC in summer is disrespectful, so if you're from the West Coast odds are you wont like it too much. Then with the move to DC there arent a lot of accomadation options by the convention center. Though i keep hearing that's changing. The badges this year were like $100 and who knows what it will be next year.

If you want to hit up a con in the DC area I'd reccomend Katsucon over Otakon. Its not as expensive and its a pretty fun con with decent programming.

I honestly prefer the more obscure stuff that I don't get to see often. Everyone just seemed like they slapped shit together which was disappointing. There was this god-awful Pokemon group that kept getting asked for photos (probably because cute girls in bikinis) and I one of them had stuff duct taped on.

I took around 35 photos this year (most of those were of myself and friends) as opposed to over 100 last year (including videos). I enjoyed myself but I'm not sad about not going to DC next year.

I would say check out AUSA and Katsucon. AUSA is in October and a small chill but fun con. Katsucon is turning into my new fave con... I hear good things about Magfest but I think it's more video games but the crowd appears to be older. Awesome con also exists, and I had a decent time last year.

Then you can always check out BlerDCon because that doesn't sound like it's going to be a hot garbage con.

For AUSA they are out of rooms for Saturday night at the hotel the con is held in. However there are a few hotels up the street from it and if you live in the DC area the convention is held literally across the street from the Woodly-Park Zoo. But you could probably Air BnB it since its in a fairly residential part of the city.

Katsucon is probably out of rooms at the Galylord and outside of the convention block it's pricy. But there are a w hotels within about a block or two from the Con.

Was it just me or was the dealer's room shit this year? All the same overpriced stuff and dvds especially. And all the same type of plushes and a lot of unrelated stuff. I didn't check out what looked to be a store for lolita items. Was it legit?

Katsucon has parking.... AUSA I'd say good luck on. Though if you go across Conneticut avenue there is a neighborhood there that has non metered street parking. It's actually where the restaurants park their cars for "valet parking". So that's a tip if you ever want to go to dinner along there.

They really are and it's sad. Lots of bootleg plushies too and horribly marked up prices. The DVD prices made me laugh the most, especially funimation's booths. Even half of the other vendors were selling their own DVDs cheaper than they were though still marked up compared to what you can get them for online. It also felt like there was no manga this year which was disappointing to me. All of it was so picked over.

I got one of those tiger head backpacks for $40. It's definitely a knock-off but it looks good and I've been wanting it so I'm not complaining. The real one on Amazon is $45 so I saved some what. Really sad about Otakon leaving Baltimore for obvious reasons considering I live here, but I am excited to see how things in DC go. My birthday was on Friday so I celebrated all weekend. Programming seemed pretty meh to me this year though.

In the dealers hall I got a Monster Hunter X Gudetama Tigrex plush I had been eyeing. In the AA I got this key chain of D.Va in bkub's style which I love a whole bunch, so overall i'm pretty happy.

One of the bigger booths that had manga, I was there talking to the guy and I was asking about untranslated manga. This guy was a 50 year old neckbeard, you could tell he was in the business for a while.

He asked me "which manga are you looking for" I said Global Astroliner GOU and this man sucked his teeth like I just spoke of some forbidden legend ancient treasure type shit. He gave me a worried look and wished me the best of luck.

You know what? Not always. Years ago there were no ice-cream trucks at Otakon, not a single one. Don't know if it was because of obscurity (the con got no recognition from the city until it had been there a couple of years), or if it was because they changed vending permit policies or something.

I've been attending Otakon for the past 10 years in Baltimore. I've documented the convention in photo and video for the past ten years and a lot of change has occurred during that time frame. But this change is something we have all seen coming. I see the move from Baltimore as a end to an era. I will definitely miss Baltimore as part of the convention scene.

I finally got to meet bane at the cgl meetup on Saturday and got to talk with a few people at the same meetup on Friday and saturday. I ended up staying until 11pm eating dinner at the bar with them.

I staff both. Vegas is a LOT smaller but maintains a lot of the quality, its a boutique convention and a place to experiment with different stuff that may or may not make it to Otakon "Prime".

If you can find cheap flights, there is a pretty good room block rate in Planet Hollywood.
