Can we talk cosplay this time maybe?
I'm curious what everyone's working on and what the new most common cosplay will be, guessing alot of Overwatch at the moment.
>>
How is everyone's Comicpalooza going?
>>
>>9059523
pretty good
played some free arcades on 3rd floor

working on venom (finishing up) costume
though the heat, and possible parking problems (parking 2 or 4 blocks away) is making me think twice.
>>
>>9059536
Why are you parking so far away anon? There is underground parking right across from the GRB and it is only $12 a day.
>>
>>9059568
Can confirm, its great.
>>
Next con for me is Anime Overload. Was going to try out Anime Austin, discovered I was going to be out of state during it was though, so I'll be watching from the sidelines I guess. Never been to Anime Overload, had some friends tell me it's shit, not expecting much, but I live nearby, so I might as well. Working on some new cosplays, this way I can test run them before San Japan.
>>
im working on a giffany cosplay for san japan
its gonna be my second cosplay which my first one was years ago and complete shit so im hoping for the best
>>
Gonna be at comicpalooza. Im War Machine. If you see me, say hi.
>>
I'm planning to start cosplaying this year at San Japan. I haven't been to any cons in years so I'm excited to break back into them again.
>>
>>9059568
i park next to grb (to the side) sometimes its 10, but i'm betting on sat it'll be like 15
>>
who game room all day here
>>
Can anybody tell me what color the wristbands for Comicpalooza are today, Saturday?
>>
>>9060107
Get a job. Use the earnings from that job to buy a wristband instead of duplicating it.

lots of 'hot topic' harleys (white tshirt and tiny red/blue shorts)

a hot bombshell harley was there too.

the Halloween section was pretty cool.
couldn't find or missed commander mark and joe grisaffi.
>>
Anyone going to the tea party?
>>
>>9060629
Nah man it's Father's day. My friends and I also planned to save our money for San Japan anyways.

>>9059523
So far generally well. Fashion show was fun to watch and wasn't hours late. The lolita panels have all been done on time and nicely, although they're a bit small. The booths at the con look pretty great too, can't wait to go back to check out the last pieces of stock left.

One hilarious thing that happened though was some dumbfuck goth nazi tried to show the BTSSB designers the ironing board story. He brought a folder and tried to go up there to see their reaction, but got told off by staff because it would be really rude to show them that. Everyone in the crowd got worked up once they realized what he was trying to show them.
>>
>>9061250
What the actual fuck? Thank god the staff intervened. What a loser.
>>
>>9061250

Aparrently James Karsten, the guy who did the International Sailor Moon Day at Ooples last year, is banned from hosting another ISMD related to the original. He also is banned from volunteering at SJ now and has been trying to smear Ninetails, Justin's, SJ's and Dave's name by pulling out the victim card when his actions caused him to get in trouble.
>>
>>9061366
He has made vague threats too.
>>
>>9061366
What did he do?
>>
>>9061250
Yeah I would of went but tickets went up Friday and I could literally find no information when anything was being held. Oh well. Maybe next year.
>>
Can anyone confirm whether or not you need a pass to enter the game room? Was thinking of showing up today just to play.

didnt finish typing but I still dont get how he gets the idea that Justin ""stole"" their idea for ISMD when Ninetails and the SATX Lolitas have been doing one unrelated to the official ISMD for 3 years.
>>
>>9062281
I've seen this guy. Holy shit this is hilarious.
>>
>>9062291
He is a severely delusional person.
>>
>>9059512
con was pretty fun
didn't cosplay first 2 days (1s day is usually for autographs/pictures. also carrying around a backpack).
2nd day was going to wear venom costume, but got there at 940am and parking/construction was a nightmare. had to park 4 blocks away and as i was putting on costume i was drenched in sweat. so i ditched the costume (lucky i had another tshirt) and walked.
3rd day wore my kylo 'in da hood' ren costume.

only got michael biehn autograph/picture.
>>

James was banned for being a crazy bastard and for trying to claim ISMD as "his" event in San Antonio which it isn't
>>
>>9061758
They all sound like shit haha
>>
>>9062996
Wasn't there some other delusional underage girl claiming that it was her event too? And that Nine-Tails should help HER with her event?
>>
>>9062677
>only got michael biehn autograph/picture
I wanted to get a photo too but money.
Got a photo with bill paxton tho.
>>
>>9063309
All I know about a girl being involved was one of them knew about ninetails sailor moon day event happening (she attended the one prior) and wanted to combine the two events in the beginning to avoid confusion and possibly drama. James was ok with it at first but then that's when all the drama started because James couldn't take control of the event. Thus leading to James saying Ninetails stole the idea, despite Ninetails holding this event since a year prior. She ended up getting booted from James's event since she wasn't on his side of the conflict and defended Ninetails. She even made a comment when he called out Otaku Cafe about holding a charity event on the same day his event was that ninetails was open about their ideas and willing to come to an compromise for both paries to be happy just as long as Justin and Ninetails can run the event. James didn't like it and basically this drama unfolded.
>>
>>9059826
Dude I saw you with iron man awesome costume lol. How did you make that btw?
>>
>>9063679
Thanks, I made it with EVA and craft foam. Both suits are made out of them with different materials like thin wood or metal washer used for a function, like joints.
>>

>>9077682
this. was gonna go just to see a guest but they backed out.
Stopped watching roosterteeth stuff around 2012, tried their new stuff, totally pandering to a whole different crowd.
I dont want to go to a con thats gonna be filled with minecraft autists.
>>
If you're hyped about the guests at RTX you're probably not into /a/ or /cgl/
>>
>>9077682
I know a ton of people going for SGC, so. Not sure what to tell you.

But RTX putting it on the same weekend as AX was a huge mistake on their part.
>>
Any fun shit going on?
>>
>>9073136
There was lots of food and the designers invited the attendees to their table for Q&A. It was very nice. I really liked that I got to talk to them.
>>
>>9078353
Almost two different crowds. It is RTfags and Gamerfags who fly in all over the world for this show. It is pretty much Let's Play Con . AX is weeb central.
>>
So ready for AFest already
>>
>>9079466
Emphasis on "Fags". RT's fanbase is mainly catered to Tumblr amd the LGBT community. It's where they get most of thier money even though RT is slowly falling to pieces.

>>9077682
Sad but true. But ya know, if you wanna just go see shit, just look in your toilet. That sums up RWBY. Hanging on the coattails of a dead man.
>>
>>9081886
there is a creepy lolita in the community who is running his own tea party at a fest and people actually are willing to spend money. but you can tell he has no experience with anything and a-kon was his first event, and he's an old maid-obsessed ita. is there anything the moderators can do about that?
>>
>>9081886
ready in spirit, not ready cosplaywise.

That and I want to get a room but all my friends are into scifi/comics shit now so they never come to anime cons
>>
>>9082090
*anime cons anymore
>>
>>9082090
>all my friends are into scifi/comics shit now so they never come to anime cons
I know this feeling all too well and it sucks. I dont enjoy conic and scifi cons as much myself because it seems like anything you want to see or do costs money on top of the already expensive badge.
>>

>>
>>9084441

>>
Is the Hilton the biggest venue Akon can get in Dallas?
>>
>>9086246
Dallas convention center + the hotel might be bigger if events were held in both

Or they could move stuff like huge panels and the AA dealers room to the marketplace across the street, but im sure that'd cost a shit ton more
>>
>>9086325

Convention center would be larger, but I think they don't allow for late night/overnight events. That would be an issue I would guess.
>>
>>9086334
yea and thats why fuck dcc lol
>>
>>9086246
The main hold up is that there's not jack shit for hotels near the dcc. The Omni is the largest hotel they got nearby but it can't fit A-Kon.
>>
>>9082010
wait whaaat? I missed this at A-Kon. You can contact AFest directly and see if the management can do anything about it. Unless you plan on putting on the same event but better they probably wont do anything.
>>
>>9082090
>>9082533
Same. I cannot stand DCC/Fan Days cons...too crowded and terrible programming. Equally terrible cosplays. Not to mention incredibly overpriced .
>>

>>
>>9088724
A-Kon doesn't want to pay up. They are well known to be cheap as fuck.
>>
>>9082010

Wait, is this that old guy who came to the New Year's tea? I couldn't tell if a sissy man or just a really old hag had gotten into the fashion. I don't think the mods will do much though since it's not like Metroplex as a group is running it for the con itself.

>>9081886

Not at all. Starting panel prep this weekend and god I hope we finish it all because there's only 2 weeks in between that and San Japan.
>>
>>9079466
How does it compare to a PAX-type event? I've been to East once and South every year, and while I definitely get the feeling I've become very divorced from mainstream gaming culture, I usually find something interesting to see (the XCOM 2 panel this year made my weekend).

A handful of my friends have stopped going to anime cons and now only do RTX since they're big into RWBY and the RT crew (whom they ship together, which I find...weird at best). They said RTX blew all the anime cons away as far as pure fun goes. I've been saying "eh maybe" to RTX every year it's been here, and I've yet to hear what's there other than RT stuff I stopped caring about in RvB Season 3 and YouTubers I don't follow, so I don't know if it's worth $45 for a day pass just to find out what it's about.
>>
>>9061366
Whoever owns Ooples in Austin was trying to swipe it from ATX too. My friend is running it and they keep harrassing them to put it in Ooples. There's no way they're fitting that many people in a shitty stripmall store.
>>
>>9089674
If you're not deep into RT or Screwattack you're going to be bored. There were some gaming culture but not much in terms of mainstream. There were some of the same booths I saw at PAX South but they weren't pushing hard onto people. Except for Twitch there weren't any giant booths going on. None of the big 3 were there.

The tournaments were light. There wasn't as many people as in comparison PAX so there wasn't lines upon lines to demo games. There were plenty of lines for anything involving RT or their panels.

I didn't stick around after a day as I am also not big into RWBY or YouTubers.

Eh, not worth the hassle and the idiocy. You should find better friendswho aren't into that godawful excuse for a show. Again, RT caters to tumblr and the evergrowing lgbtqwhatever the fuck they are crowd because they know they'll get money from them.

Do yourself a favor and go to Anime Expo instead. RTX gets a fuckton of con drama from the "cosfamous" RWBY cosplayers and none of them go to Anime Expo.

Examples: xwhiterussia, J-Jo Cosplay, and a new upstart called Bowling for Cosplay are already making waves in the Fandom.
>>
>>9093407

I helped a friend out with a booth and eh. This hotel is really awful as far as space. Not that they had anything to put in it. Mostly teenagers running around. I felt like I was the only one in lolita.
>>
>>9103043
What were YOU trying to accomplish? How does "sorry you suck" imply you sympathize?
>>
Running a few panels and doing the cosplay contest at AA. It feel like Anime Overload, but it's a bit more lively, which is nice. Ikkicon's first year was way smaller than this, though, so I'm hoping AA can afford to move to a bigger venue next year. I'd love to have a decently-sized Austin con during the summer.
>>
>>9104130
Unless they miraculously have 3000 people there no it's not. Ikkicon's first year was insane. You couldn't walk the halls because there were over 2000 people in a venue suited for 800 at best.
>>
>>9104195
I meant size of the hotel. AA has more open areas than what I remember Ikkicon had.
>>
>>9103755
I actually ended up there for about 30 minutes. Didn't even buy a badge. Seems like it'll be ok in the future, but the venue is just super cramped, or at least felt that way.

I honestly think that if the con went to a bigger venue, it'd benefit immensely. It doesn't even have to be a 4-star hotel or anything, just big enough that I don't have to make 5 laps around the parking lot to find a spot like I did today.

Glad I didn't pay for that turd. You can't be a good con in the old Anime Overload hotel. Shit is still shit no matter how it's packaged.

I'm really in it for the merch since the hotel is down the street from my house, but last year it's not like the music was the best it was okay for my taste.

Who did they even get last year?
>>
>>9107156
Akai SKY who is your generic anime cover band. Animefest stop giving a shit about music guests after the 2014 disaster concert with Flow.

Preach.
Everything about it was shit. The dealers. The contest. The meido cafe. The floor. What was I even expecting?

>not expecting a first year con to be good
Have people not learned not to expect so much out of a first year con??
>>
>>9107808
Anime Austin can not use that excuse even if it is a new con. It was run by some long time vets who use to work with Ikkicon. It is not run by new weebs putting on a new convention. It is a total shit location but they're too cheap to go somewhere else.

Notice how all 4 use the same style? It isn't by coincidence.

>Disaster concert
I don't know what show you were watching because that was one of the best shows I've ever been to, even with that one asshole pulling the fire alarm.
>>
>>9108211
I couldn't even get in because the room was way too small then the fire alarm bullshit happened. I said fuck it. Ruined my weekend for me.
>>
>>9108370

I'm not sure what you're talking about. You could have gotten in. There was standing room up front, but the back had rows and rows of chairs. People were able to go in and out the entire time. I doubt you even tried.

The Louisianime one is different, but the other 3 together look so sad.

And honestly annoying to navigate.
>>
>>9108370
You literally could've gotten to the front after the fire alarm went off. Everyone ran back in.

They continued the concert too. My friends and I went back in and then went to dinner. Anon, you're kind of stupid.
