Pitbulls are far and away more likely to kill a person. That's not an opinion, it's a hard fact. In fact, they're probably far more likely to kill than a lot of shit you do every day. It's a pure numbers thing.

Just shoot it anon. Head into your backyard, call the dog over, and pull out a gun and shoot it in the head.

I would imagine any handgun chambered in 9mm or larger would do fine. Make sure you press the muzzle to the top of the dog's head and fire straight down, this will prevent any bullet from flying off into the distance and becomming a safety hazard. Use hollow point or soft point ammunition as well, it doesn't have much room to expand in this application, but it's better than ball ammunition. If using a revolver, pick out a wadcutter or semi-wadcutter bullet.

After 1 shot the dog should be out. Make sure to check that it is no longer breather before disposing with the dog. If you're going to bury him/her, the sooner the better. If you are going to cremate it, consider leaving it for a day or two in the shade so it can dehydrate a little.
