What are your opinions on Shikinami? I know a lot of people were unhappy (and I was, at first) with her un-Asuka-like . . . kindness? But the more times I rewatch, the more I feel like she's a bit more realistic. I sorta feel like she is the Asuka that was always there in secret in the original series when we weren't seeing her.
The cutie who was bitter about her "rival," but didn't necessarily wish ill upon her. The girl who wanted to impress the boy she liked, but didn't know how to go about it. The too embarrassed to admit to herself that she was really sweet on the inside all along, but hated it because it made her seem vulnerable.
I feel like she's the other side of the coin is Asuka from the original. I'm really curious what others feel!

I have also come to understand better Shinji and somehow I could relate to him in some aspects. Nonetheless I still hold some kind of aversion against him and I definitely consider he's far from being worthy of Asuka.

She does deserve someone better and more valuable to be with her and help to heal her soul, injured after all she's been through from her childhood.

Shikinami is the "tsundere-waifu" version of Soryu. Much simpler and emptier than the original, with a void personality compared to the former Asuka.
Shikinami it's kind of pure fanservice to attract new fans (and sell merchandising).

It's not I don't like her, but compared to Soryu, there's no comparison.

While Soryu was infinitely more "tsun" than "dere" (the latter is minimal; almost non-existent), Shikinami would be the opposite to that: a prototypical tsundere, similar to those popular nowadays. It's pretty sad Gainax dared to do such a thing to Asuka.

I can see that. It's sort of how I felt when I watched it the first time. I was SO excited to see how gorgeous Asuka looked with the new animation and everything, but I realy did feel like they "wussed her up."
Like I said, the more I've watched and thought about it, the more I feel like they meant Shikinami to sort of counterbalance the parts of Sohryu that might have made her seem more cruel than she really is - like they meant her to be the private Asuka, versus the proud to the point of being arrogant Asuka that everyone on the outside sees.
I understand how it can be hard to get past that feeling that they sold her out, basically. To an extent, they probably really did - but I guess I sort of overthink it. I only want to think the best of her, so it makes sense to my mind to sort of combine them into one mega-Asuka with a really 3-dimensional personality.
I've really sort of likened myself to her in a lot of ways. I related to her a lot when I first saw Eva and I was only 2 years older than her, so it's hard to think that her creator would be so cruel as to whore her out to the lowest common denominator.

I think they (Anno) may have made Asuka kinder and less Sohryu like in 2.0 so that in 3.0 they could make some character development between the relatively sweeter Asuka and the more hardened, post 2.5 Impact Asuka. If Asuka is already Sohryu, then how could Anno have made her colder than to have all of unknowing humanity dissapear and her friends and fellow rival pilots vanish, with Shinji being the main perpetrator?

2.0 Asuka is more or less innocent and immature in 2.0, so that she could transition into grizzled, rage-filled beasto who's out for Angel blood. It's a more natural progression, considering in NGE Third Impact was a one time event that ended (perceivingly) as quick as it started. 2.5 Impact and the Nemesis Angels spanned 14 years before baka Shinji decided to wake up.

To be 100% honest, they're both victims, which is frustrating to me, but at least Asuka overcame her victimhood and became a strong individual.
Rei has Stockholm and sticks to Gendou like glue and is basically in love with him. She doesn't realize how abusive he really is. It's sad - they're all just kids.
Misato is the strongest female character we have, but she still looks to male companionship to fill her pain.
The whole series is a little misogynistic, but realizing that it was made by someone raised in a country where women are still, generally, beneath men, I do see how he was doing his best representation of strong female characters.

Just for any here who didn't catch the debate in the Rei threads, the issue is how much of Rei's soul is in Rei Q. There are multiple reasons Anno shows us Q is Rei including the mental voice link Rei has with Shinji at the beginning of Rebuild 3 and Q's interest in Shinji's music player at the end of Rebuild 3.

Some people who hate Rei Q have gone so far as saying the next Rebuild could be called Rei Q is Rei and they still would not accept it as fact. Sad but true.

Rei Q is Rei but she doesn't have her complete soul. Rebuild 4 will be about Shinji trying to get Rei back whole without causing an Impact as we saw at the end of Rebuild 2.

Well, most people make porn doujins. Its hard to find non porn/hentai/ecchi doujins and if they are, its in Japanese never to be translated.

The only non-H doujins I've read so far that were decent was Re-Take, Evangelion: Epilogue and some of Monkey Taste's stuff.

Re-Take is almost professionally done, and I know its hard to expect every doujin to be like that but I'd love to see something that didn't have Asuka sucking Shinji's dick in the first page or Misato spilling out her tits on Shinji's face. wew
