You clearly have no idea how this works. In fact most publicly traded companies don't pay dividends. You buy because you expect the shares to go up in value, and sell when it does.

In a sense, it's betting on a company that you thing has strong growth potential and hoping to profit.

It's like starting a business and taking no profit early on to make the business is successful. The idea is the value comes from the growth of the business and it either continues to grow or eventually pays a dividend. You still get voting rights and such.

some companies give out dividends. companies that don't give out dividends reinvest the extra capital into growing the company.

Other than early and mid stage growth stocks, yeah it's terrible OP. 100% of my stock portfolio is dividend stocks for this reason. It's nice to earn a return and reinvest/spend it without having to sell stock to begin with. Really solid. Highly recommended. Maybe put like 50% or less into growth stocks if you have good info on some.

Lol. You're kinda stupid aren't you OP. Most stocks don't yield a dividend. The theory is that the capital not paid out in dividends will be used to grow the company. When a company pays dividends, it's literally worth less on the books after.
