Hello, I found an apartment in a 3 unit building with my sister. The owner lives in one of the units. We went over today to sign the lease. It's a 1 year lease. We signed all the paperwork and gave her a check for the first months rent and a move in fee (no deposit). The lease starts in a week. She said she would send us a copy of the lease on monday from her office. Later, she called us and said that she was really sorry but she has a family member who wants to live there and we needed to find another place. I said that we already signed a lease but she said that she didn't deposit the money yet and we don't have a copy so it doesn't mean anything. She seemed sincere and we are living with family right now so it's not a huge deal but can we pursue any legal action with this? Or is there anything we can say to her to still get us the apartment? I understand her situation but we did sign paperwork. I regret not getting a copy of it or taking a picture of the check or anything.

You do realize she's gonna make your life as close to hell as legally possible if you force the move in?

How would she do that legally even?
not worth the hassle anon, move on

You didn't take pictures of the lease?
Nothing?
Get her to write you a letter stating that there is no lease and you're not obligated for rent on the property.
Sounds like a scam where you don't take possession, she sues you for rent and security deposit and brings the lease you signed to court.
