I got my first job and opened a savings. The banker told me it was like 00000000.3 percent growth (not actual number) she stressed that it would not grow noticeably at all. I want to save, I need to save.
What should I be looking for? I just dont know what im doing. desu im terrified because after tax I am barely scraping by.
Some more info. I make $11/hr I work 8hrs a day 5 days a week. I'm a student and I live alone. Does being a student qualify me for anything that can help me save?

Hi Anon. At that level of income I would suggest looking to cut expenses down first if it is not possible to get a pay rise/new job immediately.
Some ideas:
-Move in with a house/roommate close to where you work, also cuts down on car usage
-Reduce your phone bills and internet bills to the bare minimum
-Eat more staples (rice, pasta etc). Not quite healthy but in the short term is good.
-Safe up at least 1 month of expenses before considering anything fancy
Cutting expenses down will give you more breathing room but we aren't born just to survive are we?
Next look to increase your income:
-Crypto trading/hodling. Well you are on /biz after all so this will definitely get mentioned at some point. Put aside a small amount of your after tax income every pay day and save it up in your account. Once it reaches a certain threshold (200$?). Buy some bitcoin or ethereum and learn to trade a little. If you don't wanna trade just leave it in ethereum or some other altcoin. (I recommend NEO, OMG, or ARK, the last one which gives roughly 10% per annum interest in more ARKS if you can be bothered to stake it)
-Side hustles/part time jobs in the weekend. Rather than spending all your hard earned money at bars or even drinking at home, why not use up your free time to make more money.
Think this should be enough to get you going for now.

Don't open a savings with that "growth" rate - you're honestly wasting your time. If you're looking for a "secure" option, put it in a mutual fund.
banks are a fucking joke, they offer shit like this then all post tens of billions in profit

Yeah. When you take inflation into account, that's still far negative in comparison.
