How do I learn to start thinking in Bitcoin instead of USD? It's extremely confusing to figure out if an altcoin is a good buy having to calculate how much its value actually rose/ decreased when the quote is in BTC which is constantly jumping around +/- $100 in real life value.

Just focus on accumulating more bitcoin. Dollar prices really don't mean much. It's percentages up or down that matter. I'll look at the dollar value of my entire portfolio in blockfolio, but other than that I'm always looking at the BTC price.
