Ripple aims to get rid of the archaic swift money transfer methods (among other things). It's slow to rise after the March pump only because banks are notoriously conservative. Ripple just released new options for payment providers like PayPal instead of just banks so it's customer base just increased greatly. It will take time for all the big institutions to install and test the ripple Ledger but it is in the works.
