The difference is that crypto has some liquidity, in other words, there are some transactions made with it.

That said, however, an absolutely massive amount of coins are used in nothing but speculation. You basically have to be an economic illiterate to not realise that there is a bubble in every coin that will eventually burst (simultaneously actually), causing a huuge meltdown. What will happen afterwards - noone may tell.
