I don't follow a lot of bitcoin news but I have a small amount of coin on coinbase that I bought a little while ago. I just got an email from them about locking my coins in versus taking them out and I'm not sure what I should be doing. Do I leave them in or take them out, /biz/?

Because this change is based on consensus, and the way the "voting" is implemented is by flipping a bit in the header of a block. Voting starts and ends in periods of 336 blocks and we've yet to hit the end of the period.

You don't know what you're talking about. The activation isn't triggered by someone pushing a button. The lock in depends on whether or not 269 out of 336 blocks in a period are signaling bit 4 in the header. The reason it's not locked in yet is because there are still 27 blocks remaining in the period. Activation happens at the end of another 336 block period.
