I am starting my own business which is selling construction materials to developers and contractors.
I will be hiring my first salesman very soon and I am unsure what it reasonable to expect from him with regards to his role and responsibilities.
Are salesmen expected to find their own leads?
How do I set a quota on how many people he must be contacting?
How much do I need to help him with regards to finding leads and how much do I really monitor his activities?
Should I give him a laptop and email and leave the rest to him?
Do I have a meeting once a week to check up on how hes doing?
Anyone who has experience with a salesmen, I would appreciate your advice.

Why the fuck did you start up your own business if you have no idea how it fucking works?

Because I have never worked as a salesmen so I don't know what is expected from one.
I am doing everything on my own currently but I don't know whats too much responsibility to hand off to him.

Hire someone ambitious and organized. Pay them a draw that is livable and commission on margin. Watch the expense account carefully.
