Do anyone know of books by people who faced great odds but pulled through because they believed in themselves and what they were doing? I thought about reading Shackleton but i heard he simply lied to make himself look better and more manlier :P don't know if it is true.

Sit down and set your goal or goals. This is important. Make a roadmap for it, or somehow actually write down, map out what you want to achieve.
Mark where you are now. Hint, it's going to be the at the very beginning. Then start working towards getting to the end, gradually. Keep track of the progress.
Laziness and cowardice is often only a lack of preparation and planning.
