There was not even a need for collusion. Any individual party can stage a fight on their own by constantly posting wrong bullshit that needs correcting, and repeatedly "forking" Bitcoin Core (but always doing it in a way that so that it crashes constantly, don't want to risk a blockchain fork happening).

And yes, there is good evidence that Roger has been doing this.
