Is there any coin that represents real world assets? I am just aware of Iconomi which is backed by other cryptocurrencies.
Tether?

you could create a gold-backed crypto but that would require centralized control of gold reserves, defeating the purpose of crypto

Yes, there are some Hajeebs making one. But what is the point? The gold portion would be no different than a the gold in a gold backed note. You dont have the gold, you cant see the gold and you only have their word that you own the gold and your gold is sitting there waiting for you.
If you want gold, buy gold. Dont be dumb and buy notes or cryptos backed with gold and expect them not to sell your gold 10 times over until you have nothing. Because as soon as its gold backd, the crypto part becomes irrelevant and as soon as they sell you out, it all becomes irrelevant. And they will always sell you out on a long enough time frame.
that's what bitshares is for
BitUSD, BitCNY, BitEUR, BitGold, BitSilver etc....

Yes, a gold or silver coin.
I guess you could have platinum/palladium if you are a special snowflake but there is a reason gold/silver will always be a traded asset

Paper gold means shit. If you can't hold it in your hand it isn't truly yours.
