what does it mean if a company reports lower revenue than previous quarter but yet has a higher EPS?
did they just remove some outstanding shares? i dont understand that. (talking about sears 2018 fiscal year)
stock buybacks anon
wait til you figure out why the stock market is doing so well

so you mean Sears used its own capital to artificially inflate the price?
Thats definitely possible since the CEO owns a separate hedge fund

actually maybe I'm misunderstanding but wouldnt the only way EPS could be higher if revenue is lower is if they changed # of outstanding shares?

Seems like no one understands what revenue is.
I'm super simplistic terms revenue - operating expenses = operating profit.
Earnings is operating profit with depreciation, amortisation, interest, taxes, non-operating movements applied.
So one likely answer in this case is they had lower costs for the period.
