Hi I don't normally post here but I'm in desperate need of some financial advice. The dept of revenue from my old state keeps sending these letters saying I owe them some thousands from working in 2013 in that state. Except I wasn't in that state in 2013 nor did I have any sort of income whatsoever from there; I moved to a different state in 2012 and have been here ever since then. I'm not sure what's going on, I figure I may be the victim of identity theft or something. I contacted them after the first letter (over a month ago) and was told to fax them info proving I was not in that state so I immediately sent 6 different documents to prove it, including my 2013 tax return from my current state. Despite this, I've been getting a letter about every week and today I received another one now threatening to deduct a few hundred from my every paycheck in the near future. I can't afford this. I'm not sure if I should look into getting a lawyer or what I should do? Does anyone know what is going on?

bump for help? :(
you're asking here? are you high?
call an income tax attorney and ask what you should do
these idiots will tell you to do something that gets you sent to prison

I typically only look at other boards and assumed there would be some financial experts with good advice around here. No clue where else to ask, everyone else I asked doesn't know what's going on either. I guess it sounds like I might need to get involved with some legal complication after all, which I was hoping to avoid. Thanks for that input at least.

If you aren't going to ask a tax expert then honestly man I hate to say it but go ask reddit.

IMO it sounds like you are being scammed. If you didn't live or work in that state then they can fuck right off.
