Reminder that thanks to all the new bandwagon cryptominers, your coins are not going to increase in value anytime soon.
There is an oversupply of mining power.
And the market demand is saturated - it's too difficult for normies to buy coins and use them.
It's all downhill from here.

question that doesnt deserve its own thread. so we can ignore this retard and help me, another retard.
does mining take more electricity then gaming?
21 year old failure here, just want to know if i stopped gaming and started mining during that time in replace, would the energy cost stay around the same?
>>2753610
Crypto-mining is just a precursor to decentralized computing
>>2753858
Yes, it will take more electricity as it runs drawing more power for longer. It depends on your actual energy price. It is profitable and has been profitable for me at an average of 12c/kWh to where I get a 1000% return on that. It's not bitcoin or ETH though, that's for sure. Look to different coins.
it's a combination of too many shitcoins and over mining.
if there are only 3 coins and 3 million new dollars flowing in every month those 3 coins will grow big.
if there are 200 coins and still only 3 million a month is flowing in not all coins will do well. the market will deflate because invested money is spread out too thin.
(the numbers used are just for the example and not real numbers)
I swear you guys are so fucking retarded
BTC is the only crypto worth having

Thanks for the info.
im definetly not looking to mine the big coins, but just to be clear, you mean it will draw more power if i set aside the same exact amount of time for gaming as for mining? or do you mean since the miner will be running longer then i would be gaming it would use more electricity?
Just clarifying for myself, as im a loser and dont pay for my own electricity.
Another retard here
I've got about 40k sai coin and 1.5K LBRY, both of these have halved in value.
I've made a bit more trading shitcoins with low caps in the meantime but my portfolios still completely fucked.
Do I just hodl until after August and see what happens or just sell? I don't really need the money but seeing 40% of my investment wiped out is pretty shit.
>inb4 buy DGB
VTC is ASIC-resistant. it's worth looking at, even if you think i'm shilling.

There are still lower cap coins worth mining, if you don't think the people who've made the most money here with little to no risk are the early miners in promising coins you are delusional. That's the way it has been with every coin forever, and I don't care if greedy fucks get mad at me for sharing it here.

It will both draw more power and be used longer unless you only use it at off-peak hours (check your pricing schedule) and please repay your parents or roommates for the extra energy used. Lots of the true wizards have gone solar. Just make sure the coins you do get into have serious plans, development, and most importantly a devoted community. Also, there are plenty of options nowadays that are not GPU mining that seem pretty promising, especially if you can harness a lot of hardware. I'm not saying you should build a botnet, but holy shit some of the botnet bitcoin lords must be rolling in fucking dosh. There are all sorts of alternative hardware setups that can be used as miners, think outside the GPU/ASIC paradigm. There are so many options out there, just be smart and plan ahead. You can host certain coin nodes with certain service providers, some even welcome this, while others have a strict "no bitcoin" policy, be sure to read ToS pages if you go that route. They don't mess around.

kek, that fish will just nibble away at the floating bait

>There is an oversupply of mining power.
That's not how mining works.
Using BTC as an example, it has a block time of about 10 minutes. If more people start mining, the difficultly rises to keep within that 10 minutes. It can also go the other way as well.
>>2753972
I'll look into those alternate methods you've stated because, yeah. i dont want to be a piece of shit and make the people im living with pay more then i already am. Solar huh, that seems like a big investment decision based on your miner.
Thank you for being so helpful.
