Is there anything that prevents me from taking a large student loan to cover tuition and "housing" even though I own my own home?
I want to do some repairs, and the deferment time on the student loans will allow me to get my home into proper shape to be rented during the summer increasing my net yearly income.
Is this fraud?

fuck no, most everybody does this.

Yes, it's fraud. You're only allowed to spend your student loan money on Starbucks, booze, and condoms.
arent student loans like 6% interest rates?
why would you do this over a traditional loan

I do not plan on ever paying interest, my deferments are for 10 years. So I will only pay origination fees.

How do they do it? My school just takes what is needed for tuition and will not distribute the overage to my bank account. How have you done it without the school cucking you?
Most loan companies will loan you the full cost of attendance, which includes food and housing.

they are interest free until you graduate.
I took 5 years of student loans, 20k per year from 2010-2015.
Invested in index funds making 15% per year, turned my 100k interest free loans into roughly 250k by the time I graduated

How much of the loan did you actually use for school?
