I want to study accounting, but I've heard projections for the future of it ranging from "you're fucked, automation will kill it" to "accounting will be fine, only the technology used is changing". I've been excited about doing this for ages, but now I have no idea if it's worth doing or not.
Is it still worth studying or should I look towards doing something else?

This is really easy. If you can answer yes to the following question you should 100% go for it. If not you should look into something else.
>Are you Jewish?
that's some retarded advice.
Sure, jobs in the accounting dept are getting streamlined, but it's not just accountants that need to understand accounting. Literally every manager in the company needs to understand accounting, finance people, investors, everyone.
The world would be a better place if more people understood what good, high quality books look like.
I work with accountants on a daily basis when financing companies.
There's still a lot of (potential) value added by a accountant because of their knowledge, experience, etc
They can do so much more than just manage their books and so far technology is really far from taking over these tasks.
Wouldn't worry about it.
If you chooose this path just make sure you really diversify your knowledge so you become more of a consulting accountant.
Hope this makes sense.

If you have a degree in accounting and get licensed, you won't be replaced by a robot at least in your lifetime. The clerks in the payables/receivables departments will slowly be replaced, they process simple data entry tasks. But you will be management level overseeing or working at a public accounting firm which provides tax/audit services. Basically, you'll be several pay grades above the serious cuts.

/Pol/ is really poisoning every board on this fucking site
First, offshore gooks and poojews are already killing it.
Pretty soon even they will be made redundant.
