Sell the books on Amazon, the electronics on eBay and the lawn equipment on OfferUp. Only buy on the days corresponding to item tags and already know what anything you're buying sells for. Should be easy if you've got the time.

They had some cheap ass furniture there. You could buy it, maybe fix it up a little, then sell it on websites/facebook/Craigslist

By gaining knowledge about what things are valuable. Goodwill is a rather shit thrift store, so it's going to be harder there than at a locally owned store.

Look through the books and see what catches your eye. Pay close attention to the sci-fi and fantasy sections, and don't discount the paperbacks either. Get familiar with the popular authors. Take a small pad of paper with you and write down the names of things you see (don't use a phone it will out you as a reseller and the cashiers will not be as friendly to you for this reason). Go home and look up everything on ebay and see what you can go back and get that looks profitable.

Always be on the look out for old computer hardware. It's collectible now and is going up in price. Not just the mechanical keyboards either.

Get a good eye for cups, plates, and glasses. Some can be quite valuable, but they are generally slow moving.

Know how to spot expensive sunglasses at a glance when looking through a bin of them. Same goes for AC adapters. Write down the model numbers there.

Know what kind of materials and designs in clothing connote value. If you get good you'll be able to browse through the racks quickly and stop only at things that seem interesting.

Become friendly with the cashiers and eventually they may start holding things back or calling you when they come in. Make some donations to further butter them up.

Tell friends you are looking for certain things and if they come across one to call you. If they call you and it isn't quite what you're looking for buy it anyway because it will further reinforce them to keep looking for you.

I'm not an Americunt but is it like a 2nd hand items shop?
Fix things up and resell, check values or know your brands. I bought a teapot last week for 5 euro's and it was porcelain with a value of at least 100,- euro's.
