I'm going to mine some coins on my gaming pc because I don't pay extra for my electricity, is nicehash okay since I can get bitcoins directly or is there any better miner out there for someone with little computer knowledge.
For real ease of use, check out Minergate.
You can use that very easily, with no need for knowledge of the dark arts.

I already have nicehash, does minergate have any advantages over it.

Michael, is that you?
I'm literally doing the same thing as OP. Apparently I lived under a rock until a week ago, so I know that much about what I'm doing.
As a first test I'm dual mining ETC and DCR at 26Mh/s and ~760Mh/s respectively on a single GTX 1070. I have no idea why these coins other than I had to pick one to start. I'll collect the minimum from both pools Sat or Sun probably and I can reevaluate.
I want to mine what's hot and easy to dump into BTC and others for long term holding. Am I even close?
