Where do people exchange BTC to USD these days? Something that will actually allow you to withdrawal the USD to a bank account.

Hey, so you have your wallet on your computer. What happens if it crashes or gets stolen?

But but muh coins are forever....
Anyone know if this can be done in Canada? So far, all I've researched was BTC ATM and I'm not about that life.

In all fairness, many exchanges/online wallets don't seem to be particularly reliable and trustworthy either. Just tried to log into a BTC-e account for the first time in a year or two, only to find that my account had been suspended for inactivity to "protect me." What few Litecoins I had on there are probably in the owners pockets now.
You can back up a wallet locally and have full control over it, whereas with an online wallet you're having to trust it to others.
Anyway, BTC was worth a lot less last time I bothered checking.

That's bs if true. The majority of my stuff is with coinbase which I feel is pretty safe. But Macs have a 'time machine' back up option that makes moving your HD to a new computer pretty retard proof. I assume the wallets would transfer also

Hopefully. I definitely don't know if I'd have all my eggs in one basket so to speak, was in Bitcoin early enough to seem some pretty big and trusted exchanges (like MtGox) go down.
