as someone who studies economics in college, i couldn't have said it better. there people are fucking idiots who study models of a quasi utopia that never comes close to resembling the real world. they never tackle real issues that could change the world ( most of it is philosophy enmeshed with complicated math to make a shitty point). no wonder no fucking economist has ever changed the world for the better.

I know two people in third year economics and they're nice guys but if you talk to them about any real world stuff it's painfully obvious they have that economist thing in their heads where they think what they study has makes them superior. Try talking to an economist about politics and they just can't respect an opinion that isn't their own.

One of these guys literally listened to an economics podcast in high school. I wish these people were passionate about something else that didn't turn them into an cunts. I know people who're studying much more difficult things like theoretical physics, maths, etc. and they're normal well-rounded people with normal people flaws, and then economists have this massive ego thing.

They're what people think sociologists are like but with an upper-class (despite being middle class like me) snobbery it's insane.

Hyper-intelligent people usually STEM, medicine is where the most driven people go. Take all of those fields and you'll find decent people and a few bad eggs, take economics and all the people who're actually passionate about their field are absolute cunts.

I'm studying economics and finance and haven't found anyone too shit in econ just yet. I do wish I'd done maths instead though because a lot of it is just these ideal scenario theories with 500 assumptions that never actually occur.

No shit. They're teaching you the basics because showing you the real models would make most people drop out. A lot of assumptions makes it easy to understand the underlying trends. And you gradually relax the assumptions to make a more realistic model and introduce complexity.

have you studied economics at college level? i studied keynes, monetarists, lucas, barro, gordon, sargent, you name it. Are you familiar with the 'Lucas critique', basically the economist himself attacked the field for being too fucking narrow and not taking into account real life disturbances. The truth is, studying economics is a waste of time unless you're the kind of person to passively study models and remember everything by heart. Even then, the likelihood that you will contribute anything to the world is close to nothing.

Socialism/capitalism aren't economic concepts, they're philosophical in case you're thinking that college level economics is about those.
