is it actually possible to make sustainable earnings from altcoins?

i feel like you guys are just making ironic/meta jokes to trick people into buying these things. I love the chance to untie myself from financial burdens but not at a risk i have no understanding of.

so i ask you, how the fuck do you possibly know when you'll gain or lose anything in this game? is it just a gamble? if so, what makes it different from a casino? if not, what stats possibly hold weight in a world where people do irrational buys and sells? All these unregulated notions of value seem tantalizing because it's like a true free market, but instead of being raped by the government you're being raped by whales.

There are coins that i think will be successful because i sincerely support their model like mysterium or golem. heck i'd like to make a coin for a service where scientific journals are aggregated and cross checked by an AI for plagarism, and perhaps later on, be improved by said AI. if that has any value. if not then ill drop the dream :/
