I knew about bitcoin when it was $3, about 6 years ago, but i couldn't convice myself to buy some. It was shady as fuck back then. They didn't have their own protocol but used IRC. So the chat rooms were filled with clients that had their IP ciphered as their nick name. It looked more like the command&control server of a botnet.
In the source code of the bitcoin client they also begged that you provide servers to help maintain the network.

Needless to say that buying bitocin was demanding, the convenience of coinbase etc. was invented yet. So you would buy it from someone on a message board and hope that he doesn't scam you.

I've been in and out of BTC since it was around $10 or so and always sold before it exploded. The truth is that you always look back on how you missed out but the reality is there is no way you could have predicted the path things went. 7 years ago people saw the merits but it could have also all gone to shit at any moment.

Where does that leave you today?
1. Put some money aside that you don't mind losing
2. Take that money and get 50% in ETH, 25% in LTC, and 25% in BTC
3. Then transfer 10% BTC to exchange of choice and get some Altcoins like SC or XEM whatever the fuck you think looks good. Remember to read about what you are buying before investing.

Then just hold hold hold. Increase your position during dips for the big three when you can.
