but I don't give a cover letter unless the job asks for it, or if its something I'm particularly passionate about. If I REALLY want the job, I'll write a cover letter and submit it along with my resume.

I've never been hired when I've included a cover letter. I've had sample cover letters reviewed by campus career services and a couple professional mentors.

When businesses start getting really uptight about hiring, they start focusing in on things that don't matter. Car you drove to the interview in is older than 2 years? Not hired. Wearing a tie? Not hired. Not wearing a tie? Not hired. Haircut A? Not hired. Not haircut A? Not hired. Good university on your resume? Not hired. Any university on your resume? Not hired, we're thinking outside of the box :^)

a single page resume for entry level is sufficient.

Two pages to show education and lengthy work history for better jobs.

Fancy stuff comes into play with managerial/corp jobs.

I have what I consider a good job. I've worked in retail for 10 years, since high school. I ain't done shit with my degree, but I work in tech and it's fantastic.
