I have lurked in their slack since winter 2016, and just for being present, Jarrad hooked me and others up with a little over 2000 status genesis tokens. When they do their ICO, I believe we can exchange those for status network tokens.
That was really cool of him, and I appreciate his generosity.

That's really great and all but sell me on status fag

They're developing a mobile chat application using ClojureScript and React Native.
It also runs an ethereum node right on your mobile device.
They're very enthusiastic about decentralized apps that run on the ethereum virtual machine, and they want to make it easy for these applications to have chat-like interfaces.
The rationale is that people love chat applications, and even the normiest normie will understand how to interact with an ethereum dapp if it has a chat interface.
I think it has a chance if they can execute.

Don't worry about it. There are plenty of big wins coming in the future.

> It includes a geth node on your device that uses the Light Ethereum Subprotocol (LES) to validate and sync with the blockchain.

https://github.com/paritytech/parity/wiki/Light-Ethereum-Subprotocol-(LES)
They're relying on two protocols that aren't production ready yet.
* Whisper for messaging - https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/Whisper
* Swarm for storage - https://blog.ethereum.org/2016/12/15/swarm-alpha-public-pilot-basics-swarm/
They're working on faith that these protocols will be reliable and production ready in the near future.

- Gifting SGT tokens for Facebook likes and shitposting in Slack
- Giving 10.000 SNT / ETH
It looks like supply won't be that limited. Can I flip this? Long - term the project will fail, but who cares if we're all rich.

US residents can't participate in the ICO:

> Are US citizens allowed to participate?
> Unfortunately not, due to the lack of regulatory clarity there, we decided not to allow any US contributors at this time. It's also important to check the laws of your local jurisdiction as well.

Zeroth.
I've never participated in an ICO.
I wasn't planning on participating in this one either.
