Boardwalk allows users to use hastags, e.g. #needaride that would connect them with a service provider. The middle man is just a smart-contract. The contract takes some money from the service provider and the payment from the user. The funds are held in the contract as a bond until the service is complete. A fee (payed in SWT) then goes to the moderator of the hashtag. Think of these hashtags as subreddits meshed with eBay or Craigslist categories.
