yeah myetherwallet will do the job and you don't have to download a client if its just one time use...

just make sure that if you withdraw from exchange to create a new cold wallet and dont use the "old" one.

Exodus is neat, definitly have a look at it. Metamask is a chrome extension also easy to use. No experience with parity but seems to be great for ICOs if you want to send at a certain block. no sorry thats not what i wanted to say I thought you already had some in a paper wallet(cold storage) and wanted to get it out to an exchange.

if you want to create a paper wallet and use it to store ether for a longer period then actually myetherwallet.com is the best way to do it!

If you want to keep your funds safe longterm, I recommend getting a hardware wallet like a ledger or trezor & keeping multiple cold encrypted backups of the 24 word phrase.

yes. put one in a safety deposit box, or do what i did, which is give it (in a sealed envelope) to my lawyer. she also knows who to give the envelope to if i get hit by a bus or whatever.

The private key is generated on the hardware wallet and never leaves the device. The only way to extract the private key is to do something called decapsulation of the ic storing the key. But it costs a lot and is really only available to nation-states atm.

There's a few ways you can do this, each way carries different risks. you can do what >>2382329 did, I think it's best to use multiple OSS encryption tools like veracrypt, luks, openssl, pgp to protect the phrase first.

If you are worried about losing it, you can even print the words/encrypted data or have it etched into steel if you are a big hodler.

BTW even if you do have a hardware wallet or encrypted backups, still keep them physically secure (in a safe if possible).

Layered security is best so that if one protection fails the others will still work while you are fixing the failed one.
