Can I build up my credit score by just living as I normally would, exept buying everything on credit and paying it off in a timely manner?
get a credit card and put your bills on autopay. pay it off as the month goes on. rinse and repeat.
Get a credit card with cashback, Pay for everything with that card. Pay the bill on time every month, Go shopping when you get the check at end of year.

Except ironically, you will probably get a better credit score if you carry a small balance every month, because CC companies will see you as a better customer

Max credit score is 850. You're not getting in the 800s with no mortgage but upper 700s is still considered a very good score.

this
also rule of thumb use less than 30% of your available credit on each bill cycle / each month. that's a good benchmark. but people with the top credit scores use less than 10%.
don't pay your shit ahead of your billing statement.
it doesn't hurt your score, but it doesn't help your score either.
if you pay your balance before the statement is posted, your debt doesn't get put on the statement. so even if you paid it off ahead of time you're not building credit, because it was never on your statement.

upper 800s will take a while. but keep with it and it'll feel like no time at all.
start with one or 2 credit lines at best.
later on when your score is better, expand your credit line to have other types of credit than just a credit card.
but still same principle, barely use them - less than 10%.
