Then I traded 1 ETC for BTC, then BTC for 68 SYS on bittrex. I plan on dividing them after tomorrow into a few coins I picked out, win or lose.

I don't think many coins trade with fiat, Eth and btc do, maybe some others.

You can deposit and withdraw straight into an exchange, but there are reasons some people may not want to or be able to.
