That depends on you and what you want to do.

If you want to get 5% cash back on specific purchases there are some discover and sally mae cards that allow you to choose cashback categories, if you feel like doing all that management for a little more money.

I personally use the citi double cash card because I don't make regular purchases in the usual 5% categories, and 2% cash back on everything is decent and simple.

You can get really crazy with exploiting signup offers and optimization of your spending or travel hacking to get more than the dollar value out of your points. If you don't want to have to think about that stuff though, the best cards are the 2% back cards like the Fidelity Visa and that Citi Bank cash back card mentioned earlier.
