I'm legitimately thinking of opening up a marijuana dispensary in southern California with a partner and I was wondering what some of the major cons would be compared to just opening a regular retail store for something else.
Seems like there are very few dispensaries compared to the obvious demand and every single one that I can find seem to be fairly successful.
That's because they limit the licenses to a max number of shops per city because as progressive as this state likes to think it is it cucks itself.

>city and county permits cost millions
>permits sell out minutes after the law goes into effect
best of luck!

free markets aren't exactly a progressive ideal.
besides, if they don't limit competition the stuff will quickly be selling for roughly the price of spinach, which hurts tax revenues.

pros
>growing industry
cons
>everybody will be growing it
>buying it illegally will continue to be cheaper
>taxes and permits will kill you
When Oregon legalized cannabis in 2014 many cities were flooded with dispensaries in the following months. 75% of them died off because they didn't see enough business.
If you want to build a business off of the recent law changes in California consider opening a gardening store. Fertilizers, tools, fans, HPS bulbs, tents, ballasts, air filters etc will be in high demand. A full set-up for a hobbyist is quite expensive.
