The money you make over the amount that gets taxed at a lower rate gets taxed with the higher rate. Not the whole paycheck. If you pay 10% up to 1000€ and after that there are 20% tax and you earn 2000€ you will have to pay 100€(10% of 1000€ and 200€ (20% of 1000€ so 300€ in total. Not 400€ (20% of 2000€)
